Summary
It’s 1984, and the much-anticipated dystopian society predicted by Orwell has not materialized. Laurie McGrath is a sought-after session guitarist from Glasgow who can’t believe his luck when one of the top boy bands breaks up and its charismatic singer, Brent McDonald, asks him to be in his new band as they tour in Spain.
A series of unexpected events then catapult Lolo and his artist wife, Cate, into post-Franco Spain. Deciding to spend at least a year in Southern Spain, the couple fortuitously find a dream home by the beach. Cate renames the house Villa Hecate.
The transition years shortly after the austerity of Franco’s dictatorship were a period of freedom and adventure, both for Spain and for Lolo and Cate.
