Summary

Wendy Darling: Seas finds Wendy and Michael aboard the dreaded Sudden Night, a dangerous behemoth sailed by the infamous Captain Hook and his blood-thirsty crew. In this exotic world of mermaids, spies, and pirate-feuds, Wendy finds herself struggling to keep her family above the waves. Hunted by the twisted boy who once stole her heart and struggling to survive in the whimsical Neverland sea, returning home to London now seems like a distant dream - and the betrayals have just begun.

Will Wendy find shelter with Peter's greatest enemy, or is she a pawn in a much darker game, one that could forever alter not only her family's future, but also the soul of Neverland itself?

Perfect for old time story fans

My inner Peter Pan nerd has been released

This is the second book in the Wendy Darling series, a dark retelling of one of my all-time favourite childhood tales. After being brought to Neverland and finding out that Peter Pan is not the hero that we know him as, Wendy Darling finds herself aboard the ship of Hook and his crew. Can she trust him more than she can Peter and can he keep her safe from that fate that could await her should she return to Pan island?

I enjoyed this book much more than the first. The introduction of all of the pirates and their interactions with Wendy and Michael was interesting to read. The return of one of my favourite characters from the previous book, Oxley was also extremely welcome. I really enjoyed reading about Peter's generals in the previous books so was happy for the return of one, if only for a moment.

Colleen Oakes is all there with the twists for the previous stories and I am there for it. Any mention of something from the original tale and I turn into a complete fan girl.

I feel that the writing of the characters is done really well. Wendy began this story as a childish girl, feeling sorry for herself being captured once more to really growing into a woman nearer the end of the story.

"He may want me, but he does not have my permission to take me. I do not belong to Peter Pan. Or any man, for that matter."

Hook's character also develops perfectly as we learn more about his backstory.

The ending was the ultimate cliffhanger and made me need more. I'm counting down the hours until my next audible credit to finish this series.
