About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Can a person literally die of loneliness? Is there a connection between the ability to express emotions and Alzheimer's disease? Is there such a thing as a 'cancer personality'?

Drawing on deep scientific research and Dr Gabor Maté's acclaimed clinical work, When the Body Says No provides the answers to critical questions about the mind-body link - and the role that stress and our emotional makeup play in an array of common diseases.

When the Body Says No

  • Explores the role of the mind-body link in conditions and diseases such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, irritable bowel syndrome and multiple sclerosis.
  • Shares dozens of enlightening case studies and stories, including those of people such as Lou Gehrig (ALS), Betty Ford (breast cancer), Ronald Reagan (Alzheimer's), Gilda Radner (ovarian cancer) and Lance Armstrong (testicular cancer).
  • Reveals 'The Seven A's of Healing': principles in healing and the prevention of illness from hidden stress.

If you care about health read this!

Such a beautiful book. I really enjoyed In the realm of Hungry Ghosts and this book was just as good. But hit a bit closer to home having lost family to cancer and MS.
Real life stories and case studies intertwined with science and research. Kept me engaged and fascinated as well as emotionally reflective of the tragic illnesses and childhood trauma links that repeat throughout.
Certainly something to bear in mind when pursuing a healthy lifestyle and when at risk of spiritual bypassing.
Need to get the paperback too to highlight and go back to key bookmarks I made.

Something everyone should read

I wish I knew all of this before I got sick. This book is brilliant for giving you the insight to live your life to the fullest whilst being sensitive to the mind.

Only problem is, the audio was recorded without enough headroom meaning the limiter creates a lot of distortion and compression. It’s really annoying to me although you might not even notice.
