About this listen
Tazãr Bao, an expert Exorcist for the Guild of Magic, is about to have his world turned upside down. Yet again. When Tazãr enters a sanctuărium for the Mages to receive a restorative spiritual energy treatment, he is reunited with the last person he ever expected to encounter—an Alpha Demon, Inuel Morhh, the one who’d left Tazãr with a shattered heart two years prior. Can Tazãr find the strength to trust Inuel again? Can he forgive him? Will being thrown together in a place where they can’t revert to lies help them make sense of their past and build a future?
Where Exorcists Cannot Lie is a second chance, forced proximity romantasy that follows a petite Exorcist Mage and an Alpha Demon with a penchant for kittens.

Tazãr is one of those long-suffering characters that I love to empathize with. He’s a mage whose job is to exorcism demons. But that’s hard work. So he finally gets some time off and heads into a period of rest. Only to find he’s not alone and now there’s no way out.
I mean…is there anything worse than being stuck with your Alpha Demon ex in a sanctuary where it’s impossible to leave?
Long-suffering. I love them.
All is not as it seems, though. Inuel seems dedicated to showing his good side to Tazãr. And those scenes with the kitten? Priceless.
In the end, this second chance romance has a happy and unexpected ending. I’m super glad I listened because I enjoyed the story.
Narrator Rowan Scott did a great job and I’d definitely listen to something by him again.

Amazing worldbuilding as always, with further knowledge about mages and Elder Races—demons in this case—, and spirit power. Beautiful and funny, and so darn touching as usual with this author’s books. And her endings, always satisfying.
I like Xendra quite a lot, she reminds me of Ranélle from When I first saw Red.
The narrator is quite good, I guess I just need to get accustomed to a new one. I liked Inuel’s voice a lot, it got my attention since the very first moment, so deep and inciting.
«"Happiness" (…) could be as tricky to preserve as water in cupped hands. One moment you had it but the next it slipped through your fingers, no matter how tightly knit».

They dated but Inuel was commitment shy and left Tazar heartbroken.
Life, it seems, has left it's mark on them both.
They meet once again in a secluded place and it seems that now might just ve the right time for them.
The world building was absolutely amazing and I'm looking forward to more from this author.
Rowan Scott did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Paranormal magic
Twink exorcist/Alpha demon
2nd chance romance
Forced proximity (30 days sharing a home)
Short story
I enjoyed that while other books with a 2nd chance trope usually start after the first relationship, this book has their first meeting as the book opener and their 2nd chance later so we get to experience both situations. However, their one year relationship in between was off page and I felt like this was definitely missed. There wasn't alot of character and relationship development.
There are lots of mentions of steam but most was fade to black. It kind of made their chemistry fall flat for me. It's unfortunate because both characters had lots of appeal and more on page steam would have made this a great story. There is one steamy scene but even that was very rushed.
The book had a lot of potential and could be a great story but as is there was alot that missed the mark. The ending especially left alot to unpack.
This was a new to me author. Not sure if I would read them again.
The narrator did a great job. Their voice was pleasant to listen to. He kept a good pace and he expressed all the emotions wonderfully. He gave all the characters their own distinct voice that suited them perfectly and it brought the story to life.
too brief for me

Being a novella, and a second chance romance, there is a lot that we don’t get to see on page. I thought that there could have been a little more show than tell with regards to the circumstances that had ended Tazãr and Inuel’s relationship.
I know this is connected to Kasia Bacon’s Order Universe, but I am not familiar with the other works or know if this will be a standalone. The epilogue is fantastic and sets up the possibility of future books with this pair which I think would be a lot of fun.
Rowan Scott is such a fantastic narrator, and I’m so happy to see him continue in the M/M space. I am definitely here for a fantasy world populated with aussie accents!
A charming novella, wonderfully narrated

My only complaint? I wish it was longer. I wish we’d been privy to some more of that first time around. So I could have felt Taz’s confusion and devastation realising Inuel had left him without word.
I read that the author has fallen in love with these characters, well, so did I and I’d love to read some of their adventures just doing their job. It sounds chaotic.
The author does a brilliant job, with two distinctive voices for the MCs.
Loved it
