About this listen

"Forgive me, Father, for I will sin."

Adam: Catholic priest. Celibate. Does not yield to temptation.

Emil: Sinner. Seducer. Snake. Hot as hell itself.

After a sheltered childhood ruled by religion, all Adam wants is to be a good priest and make his parents proud. But it’s hard to stay virtuous in a big city like Warsaw, and when he makes one slipup, his life spirals into ruin. He is sent to a tiny mountain village, where he hopes to live down his shame and work on restraint.

But staying celibate becomes far from easy when he meets Emil - a local man with long dark hair, a mysterious past, and as little morality as he has luck. Emil has no qualms about flirting with a priest. Worse still, he seems hell-bent on tasting forbidden fruit and unearthing the desires Adam has always kept hidden.

The odd village hides secrets far more sinister than Adam's insatiable lust for Emil. Old Slavic magic looms everywhere. Superstition mixes with reality. Someone is watching his every move. Someone follows him in the dark, lurking in the shadows of the ancient forest. Adam is plagued by disturbing events, and Emil could be his only salvation even if he is the devil himself.

Can a priest shepherd the black sheep to safety, or has he been the wolf all along?

Warning: This dark, paranormal m/m romance features scorching-hot, emotional, and explicit scenes. The story contains scenes of violence, offensive language, self-harm, and morally ambiguous characters.

Super intriguing

This is a story unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It’s definitely darker than what I usually pick up, but that cover called to me and I’m glad I gave it a shot. The folklore and occult narrative was extremely interesting and well done. There’s an air of mystery that is completely creepy, but somehow there still manages to be a love story in there.

3.5 stars, Adam and Emil

Narrator was ok but that is my response others may love it, I have enjoyed listening to him in the past but it was just this one that I struggled through. Adam is a Priest who is sent to a small village when he is found with porn. Emil is the hot gay villager full of bad luck. Full of folklore and Paganism it is enjoyable

So intense...

In spite of being a fan of KA Merikan therefore being someone used to their books, the topic on this one was difficult for me to read. As always the writing style, plot and character development is outstanding but the intensity of the situations, all the dark aspects of the storyline and all the complexity of the good/evil intrigue and interactions between the MCs were so disturbing especially with the exceptional work of Mr Baker managing the voice acting. I recommend discretion and review the potential triggers before reading it, because the book Is wonderful but it has some parts that could be difficult.

wicked, yet oh so good!

A unique and spooky story, with a little paganism and devil worsh thrown in for good measure!

I'm loving K.A. Merikan's gritty works and this one held me captive. With a few twists and turns and much longing (& passion) between Adam and Emil this story had me hooked and Wyatt's narration gave me chills. I loved the darkness, gore, passion and true love among a story of a dark spirits return to it's home. A truly unique story I could predict, I really enjoyed the ride!!!!

Dark Folklore

I find K.A. Merikan books hit and miss. There was one I really didn’t enjoy, and there are ones that I rave about like Wrong Way Home. I also enjoyed the historical novel The Black Sheep and the Rotten Apple. I was excited to see they were taking on a book with violence, offensive language, and morally ambiguous characters. I love that stuff.

There were parts of this book I enjoyed. I loved the folklore and the mystery. There were parts I enjoyed less – the emotional abuse of one of the characters (although at least this time not at the hands of the other lead). There was a lot going on in this book including plenty of secrets and I definitely didn’t see the ending coming. I like when a book surprises me.

Wyatt Baker narrates many K.A. books and I think he does a good job. Sometimes it feels like he’s overemphasizing things, but I quickly settle back into the rhythm of his narration. I did like the enhanced effects used in this production – it worked well.

If you’re looking for something dark, this is definitely the book for you. If you’re afraid of things that go bump in the night, consider yourself forewarned.

Different and amazing!

This was a very different read. I really like the author's style, almost 100% of their books are my liking and this one is no different! The story is gritty and raw. I couldn't stop listening until I reach the very end. It made me uncomfortable at the end, but it's just fiction and didn't alter my believes. One thing though, the part were Adam was possessed and the demon use his body to have unconsencual s*x, was not cool. Like at all.

Wyatt Baker is one of my favorite narrators, his voice is sexy, gravely and his voice acting is terrific. He can make difference voices, all the right pauses and a good pace.

Paranormal, slow-burn

A religious mystery morphs into a creepily fascinating and intriguing plot.
Folkloric occult and paganism seduces religion.
Temptation and lust in the form of Emil as the devil incarnate seduces young priest Adam on a dark, gritty and emotionally complex rollercoaster of a ride.
Atmospheric and deliciously twisted, this story was absolutely done justice by Wyatt Baker, his command of the dark themes and settings definitely had me quaking in terror.

Adam and Emil

Adam is conceived on a night of sin and born 9 months later with a tail. He grows up to be a priest but his sinful thoughts and desires will have him sent back to the place of his conception. There he meets Emil. A sinner who is left to his own by the towns people and wears a cloth of misfortune around him in the form of black crows. But the beautiful man has a lure Adam cannot resist. What they don't know is that they both play a part in an old folklore that needs to be corrected. It's an amazing story which should not be a surprise since written by KA Merikan. Wyatt Baker does a fantastic job in narrating with some added features at the end of the story which makes it come so alive.

Dark and Demonic but good listen

This book is not my typical listen but it was good. The angst and push/pull was very present between Adam and Emil. The demonic, folklore, magic and cult run thru the whole book but the devil at the end was really scary. The end of book was a great surprise.

I liked Wyatt Baker's narration. He did a great job with distinguishing between the characters.

If your into dark, paranormal books then I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Stellar listen

Merikan knows how to keep a reader on the edge of their seat. This book is no exception. It is truly a book on the wild side of the imagination. I found it to be heart pounding, engaging, and just overall breathtaking. Baker’s narration leads us down the darkest road to our deepest fears, and leaves the listener wanting more. This book is a all-encompassing treat for the ears and the imagination.
