Summary

No.1 bestselling author Gill Sims is back with her eagerly awaited sixth Why Mummy novel.

When family life gives you lemons, trade them for grapes!

Mummy Ellen is on a well-earned sabbatical from work, and she has A Vision. She is going to cherish *every* moment this holiday with her Precious Moppets Peter and Jane, alongside her ride-or-die best friend, Hannah. There will be wicker baskets! Vintage bicycles! Pink sunshine wine! And not an electronic babysitter in sight.

But as she strives for her picture-perfect “Ultimate Family Summer” in the sun-kissed bliss of her almost-chateau, reality crashes the party. With small feral hell-beasts to keep alive on the daily, and Hannah suddenly and mysteriously MIA, wine o’clock gets earlier and earlier as each day crawls by.

Can she keep The Vision alive without resorting to nightly beige ‘freezer tapas’ (aka guilt-flavoured chicken nuggets)? Or will she reach the end of her Gentle Parenting book and her tether as her dream holiday descends into a nightmare?

Join Ellen on her uproarious quest to salvage one of the #18PreciousSummers, or simply find her Grape Escape.

FAB FUN 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Each 'WHY MUMMY' book should be made into a 10 part COMEDY series staring narrator and actress 'GABRIELLE GLAISTER ' as she really brings 'Ellen' alive from the pages ~ she is so believable. They made the book 'THE FLATSHARE ' a successful series.

Gill Sims has hit on something very special with these books. This listen was again, relatable and hilarious, I had 4 small children, so I have lived it.

My favourite part was the 'German Tourist' who were at all the places Ellen took the kids through the summer holidays 😂 I was laughing out loud it was hilarious 😂

I saved my credit waiting for this listen and I am so glad I did, as it was worth it and I definitely recommend this book!!

Still got it

Most series get tired by the fourth or fifth book. Mummy shows no signs of cutting back. Possibly the best episode yet.

love these books.

Another amazingly funny book . I loved it as I've loved them all. I have to listen though as Gabriella Glaister really is Ellen . I agree with another review we need this to be made into a series starting Gabriella 🤞
I listened on holiday and my favourite part way the waxing scene. I cried laughing on my sunbed round the pool. 🤣 can't wait for the next one 🙏

A Book Too Far? I think the Mummy series is done.

To be clear I have enjoyed all the previous books, particularly as the age group of the children in the book has tracked that of my own "precious moppets" through the years, so it made the stories very relatable.
However this book now tracks back and feels like a rehash of the earlier books in the series, with nothing new to offer apart from a holiday setting, which doesn't really bring much new to the table.
The lead character Ellen is actually quite unlikeable, perhaps intentionally, with her whiny moaning about friendships and her partner/family and you tend to lose patience and sympathy for her.
But the biggest issue is that all the other characters in the book are very one-dimensional and stereotypical caricatures, whether of the yummy-mummies or the new-age feminist. This was amusing in the earlier books but again there is nothing new here so it just feels tiresome.
The last issue I have is with the audiobook, the voice of the narrator grates a little after a while with all the repetitive self-indulgent nonsense - japes and frolics, eleventy billion, etc etc.
Time for something new please Gill!
