Love hearing actual scientific based arguments

Very interesting. Its important to hear the whole book before moving to the 'diet' aka lifestyle changes to understand why.
Lots of aha moments and points to reflect on.

Why is he (Too) confident?

Some interesting stuff here. He speaks confidently about nutrition and weightloss although this is not his field of expertise. He is probably a good surgeon but he should been a bit more humble. He loses alot of credibility when he tries to implement his theories to covid-19. His comparison of The West and India during the pandemic, just makes him seem unkowledgable and loses its credibility in the wake of how hard India has been hit later in the pandemic. Although this was sent to print before the pandemic was over, he should had been more humble and not act like he could predict the future in a field that is far from his expertise. Being doctor does not make you an epidemologist

Not a Diet Book - A Valuable Education

Highly recommended. The content is very informative and interesting. The technical aspects may put some people off, but I would urge that they stick with it as some interesting analogies are used to break the content down. The content makes perfect sense (some of which I was already aware of).
Although the objective appears to be about weight loss, it is so much more than that, weight loss will be a positive byproduct of an improved knowledge of how the body works. I will be reading again and use as a point of reference.

The narrator delivered the book in a clear manor with the added bonus of applying personality to draw you in to the content.

Well done and thank you to the author for being honest.

A fascinating insight into how our bodies function

The author explains why all diets fail and how our bodies are far more sophisticated than we ever gave them credit. The science is told in a straight forward, easy to digest (pun intended), non-technical way, presumably honed by extensive time spent in consultation with individuals who have been defeated by dieting. The mistake, it seems, is in treating our body as simple machines when our body's sophistication is reacting long term to what it sees as perceived danger and responding accordingly. The message is: follow the latest diet, and you are playing games with your body at your waistline, and health's peril. You get an understanding of why humans have survived so long throughout history.

I'd recommend this book to everyone because even if they are following the recommendations of the author by accident or by good habits, they likely know someone who doesn't. It will alter anyone's perception of overweight people, struggling with their weight or trying to diet and failing. It certainly has for me: highly recommended.

Eye Opener

Finally someone talking sense about the state of health and what causes obesity. A thought provoking, yet non judgemental assessment on what is causing us as a nation to be gaining the weight.

Eye opener

I absolutely find this book fascinating, I'm on my second read through. To say it has changed the way a view food and eating is an understatement.

I can easily see how this applies to me and it has enabled me to make changes to my diet to get over the plateau I've been on for the last several months.

One of the most important books I’ve ever read

I listen extensively to nonfiction books about health guidance, written by established scientists and doctors, and this book is easily the most powerful, compelling and useful I have come across. As a young woman with a family history of heart disease and other related illnesses, I have sought nutritional guidance constantly - yet there is so much contradicting information, constantly new recommendations or superfoods, and it’s difficult to truly understand and therefore follow in daily life. The structure of this book is phenomenal and is the key to why it is so helpful, as it takes the time to teach readers about the history and biology of our eating, whilst giving clear practical advice throughout. We begin by a vivid retelling of the history of obesity, illuminating explanations of why it is more prevalent in some parts of the world, and a guide to genetic predisposition. There are clear explanations of how obesity and its related disease actually occur in the body, in much greater depth than I have ever encountered, and revealed how much of what we think we know are in fact misconceptions. The next section discussed how modern society and scientific studies have shaped our eating habits, and how we fall into traps as consumers. The final section lays down clear guidance for how to overcome these pitfalls to live a healthier life. This book is exceptionally well researched and analytical of scientific studies, but best of all this information is presented in a way that it is accessible for anyone, entertaining to listen to, incredibly memorable and practical. It is also written with true care for the reader, and deep sympathy for how difficult it is to overcome obesity - but ultimately is an empowering roadmap for how to improve our habits and become healthier.
