 Der britisch-amerikanische Journalist Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) erhielt 1869 den Auftrag, den verschollenen David Livingstone zu suchen. Livingstone war Arzt, Missionar und ein berühmter Afrikaforscher, der 1866 zu den ostafrikanischen Seen aufgebrochen war.
