About this listen
Evil hides beneath armor of gleaming white.
The new civil war has cracked the empire apart as Turi and Rio race to gather allies against Clan Ishima’s brutality. The enemy is ten steps ahead, and Turi is pushed to his limit to stop the evil a corrupted paladin order has unleashed.
Demari, finally fulfilling a lifelong dream at sea with his brother, finds himself recruited into the designs of a goddess and soul-bound to a man he barely knows. In the fight for supremacy in the empire’s waters, Demari’s newfound power and connection will alter the course of the war and change his life forever.
Meanwhile, back on Trosika the new empress, Sarina Marias, faces betrayal, ancient magic, and intrigue as Ishima agents make their next move to control the island. When fate brings her face to face with the God of War, can she match her will to his?
Will of Dragons is the second book in the Bel’s War series, an exciting LGBTQ+ epic fantasy with gay, trans, and non-binary protagonists!

I enjoyed the book although, at times, I struggled to follow all the plotlines. Still, the writing was solid. The narrator, Isaac Grisham, did a good job, given the complexity of the stories. He didn’t always differentiate the voices, but I was able to keep track.
This is an enjoyable, if long, listen. Glad I did.

Brilliant fantasy set in a mythical land where they are at war. Each realm seems to be at war with one another.
Great world development; although there are so many main characters, I seemed to be at a loss more than once. The characters are well-defined, but just too many of them for me to follow each and every background.
However, the overall story is good and keeps me entertained.
Narration, I did have to speed up to 1.25 on audible, which is typical for me.

All that said, I do recommend the series. It is imaginative and compelling with gods at war, and interacting directly with the peoples of the world hands-on and through their priests and spokespersons. There is a wild assortment of people, both 'normal' and supernatural, and they often move fluidly from one type to another by the will of the gods. There are vampires (both light and dark), knights, ghosts, sirens, mages, and more, and their characteristics are both similar and different from the way you may be used to. There is war, subterfuge, betrayal, lots of death (including mass killings), torture, kidnaping, violence (obviously), and the like. The cast of characters includes many diverse and lgbtqia+ persons, who are mostly tolerated, although there are some homophobic comments. Overall, it is an epic story. I don't know how many more books are planned, but I hope the next one comes out soon (before I forget what has happened to whom.)
The narration of the audiobook is pretty good, although with so many characters, it was sometimes hard to tell the difference between some characters' voices. Fortunately, the author did a pretty good job identifying the characters when they speak, so I was able to use those cues as well to let me know who was speaking.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I love this series, but I have caveats
