About this listen

Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don't fit the stereotypical profile: they're not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male.

Sari Solden's groundbreaking study reveals that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement are also symptoms of ADHD.

Newly revised and updated to reflect the latest clinical research, the book explores treatment and counseling options, and uses real-life case histories to examine the special challenges women with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) face, such as the shame of not fulfilling societal expectations.

Included is a brand-new chapter on friendship for women with ADHD. Three empowering steps - restructuring one's life, renegotiating relationships, and redefining self-image - help women take control of their lives and enjoy success on their own terms.

I found this book helpful but I did feel like it focuses on the problems of ADD a little too much. She often rounds up a chapter on a issue caused by ADD with a line to say " but also focus on your strenghts", but with little to know real instruction on how to find those strengths. They can be hard to see when you are bogged down with your flaws...

Good info. Poor performance

Sooo I don't normally review (nor read) as I just can't find the time or I forget (Hmm..) but I thought I needed to for this book.
For many years I've thought something was 'a miss' or 'wasn't quite right' but could never really put my finger on what.. I began listening to this book (as I can't just read or just focus on one thing..another hmmm!).. Around 4 chapters in, it hit me. Its as though someone has been watching me all my life and reciting it back. Its like my autobiography. Wow. Its me. Every comment, ever description, every quote.. I can relate to it all and suddenly, everything fits, the jigsaw is complete and the light has turned on. I have ADHD. Finally, I have an answer. THANK YOU!!!

Wow.. It's me!

Im enjoying this but im having to listen in stages. Im sorry but the narration is difficult. I sped it up like other suggested too. But hit the nail on the head even though im currently undiagnosed it felt like she was speaking about me

Great and very informative.

Fantastically easy to listen to and understand whilst being thorough and informative. Exciting enough to listen through all the way to the end. It's put an end to all of the denial I had and helped to take the next steps into acceptance and a even solutions. So very grateful I was recommended this book of my life!

The missing jigsaw piece

Up to date information for women with adhd, this book covers everything and has been so helpful with my own journey which has been especially difficult during perimenopause, I was diagnosed late in life but this book is so helpful, highly recommended

Brilliant book

The book details a couple of example fictional characters, to outline & illustrate how so many women make it to adulthood, without a formal diagnosis & highlights the difficulties faced in life, without this level of self awareness.

Sari gives valuable insights about the ADHD brain & the effects that reek havoc in the lives of the women & their families who are affected.

There's tools, tips & strategies, as well as script ideas, to find language for communicating highly emotive subjects.

It's not intended to be a replacement for an expert diagnosis, in fact she goes to great lengths to point people in the direction of the services to help themselves. Including how best to work with a coach.

It's one I will return to sections of as needed. I found the narration easier on the ear at x1.25

Very in depth & helpful information

Very insightful but not 100% perfect for non US listeners. Great to share with others to understand ADHD in women

I loved this book. I'm in my 50s and the thought of me having ADHD came from a friend just a couple of years ago. After the shock, relief and grief I read. This has been my favourite book about women with ADHD. It has made me cry, of course, and has taken me nearly two years to complete, mostly in two big chunks, which made me smile! It made me feel understood and helped me to understand myself and unpick my condition from my life. Even though they are both meshed together this book has made me kinder to myself, to massively reduce what Sari calls 'negative self-talk'. I highly recommend this.

Wonderful! Illuminating, reassuring and helpful

I note the past reviews about struggling to listen to this due to the delivery of the reading. I overcame this by listening on 1.2-1.5 speed- the speed your brain goes at in all walks of life when you have ADHD!!
I’m glad I did, because the content was very good (if a bit chauvinistic in its traditional gender role assumptions, but reality is women do often fall into the runners of the household in the vast majority of cases), and it was good to read about the specifics of ADHD presentation in women, which is vastly different to the preconceived notion of ADHD boys....

You may have ADHD if you need to listen to this on 1.5 Speed!

This is a powerful book, I feel seen for the first time in my life I cannot say how much this book has impacted me. I found myself sobbing listening to it as it was articulating my struggles all my life. I'm awaiting an assessment at 44. this book is a must if you suspect you have adhd or if you are a friend, partner etc of someone with ADHD. I want to thank the author.

Emotional and illuminating
