About this listen

Henry and Nomi are thrilled to find out they’re going to be parents. There is so much to think about, so many decisions they’ll need to make, about feeding schedules and childcare and schools. But there’s one decision they never would have imagined facing, and even considering the choice is a minefield of emotions and experiences and expectations.

After all, the only thing that hangs in the balance is the course of their child’s life.

Would You Like to Choose the Race? is written by Arvind Ethan David and stars Christine Elmore as Nomi Cook and Adam Campbell as Henry Cook.

Earworms is a series of short speculative-fiction dramas–tales of what might have been...or might yet be...or perhaps in fact are, if only you were paying attention...if only you were listening.

Outstanding!

This book really touched me as my mother is white, and my father was black. I'm a light, honey colour which I've always been pleased with. I have never experienced much racism in my life but I have witness it many times with friends who had darker skin than me. The sad thing about this book is that it's definitely true that a white life is easier.(Especially for men)
A prime example of this is my sister has a black son, whereas my child's father is white so my child looks Spanish or Greek with a light tanned skin and hazel eyes.
My sister's son has been unjustly arrested or stopped by the police multiple times, and ofc my child has never been stopped a day in their life. I knew when I was pregnant that my child would have an easier life than my darling nephew since the world would see them as white. I didn't make this choice on purpose, I just fell in love with a white man. I'm sure if we'd been offered this service, and particually if I was carrying a boy, I'm sure I'd consider such a terrible thing. (I would 100% have had chosen a white son, over a black one if I lived in America!) What a tragedy that is.
This wouldn't surprise me one bit if this service was availible one day, along with picking eye colour, hair type, height etc. What a terrible world that would be if we picked and chose what we percieved to be the perfect child. This awesome little story has really scrabbled my mind, and a good book should always changed a person in some sort of way!
