  • नई नवेली दुल्हन की तरह साजो श्रिंगार करके देवी शकुंतला की विदायी की गयी। हाथी पे सवार होकर वो हस्तिनापुर की ओर चलीं। मार्ग में कड़ी धूप जब बाधा बनी तो ईश्वर की कृपा से ऋतु परिवर्तन हो गया। शीतल हवा बहने लगी और काली घटाओं ने सूर्य की प्रखर किरणों को ढंक दिया। अंतत: प्रातः काल होते होते हस्तिनापुर पहुँच ही गयीं देवी शकुंतला। सम्राट दुष्यंत से भेंट के उपरांत उन्होंने देवी शकुंतला को स्वीकारने ही नहीं अपितु पहचानने से भी अस्वीकार कर दिया। वाद विवाद कटु होता गया। ऋषिकुमारों के आरोपों का खंडन करके क्रोधित हो चुके सम्राट दुष्यंत ने देवी शकुंतला से वार्तालाप करने का मन बनाया।
