About this listen

For seven years, Vancouver nurse Cindy James reported more than 100 separate incidents of harassment, ranging from threatening phone calls to home invasions to ritualistic assaults, including strangulations and stabbings. Canada’s Royal Mounted Police spent over a million dollars investigating her claims and found zero evidence of foul play, leading them to suspect she was making it all up. Then, in 1989, Cindy was found dead, bound and naked, half a mile from where her car was parked in a shopping mall. What happened to Cindy James remains one of the most bizarre and perplexing true crime stories in recent memory.

Death by Unknown Event illuminates the enigmatic context around James’s life, the efforts and failures of law enforcement, and the lingering theories around how she died from those closest to the case.

Enjoyed this immensely. Very well read and put together. And balanced discussions around mental health views in the ‘80’s

I was pretty much hooked on this story. I am sad to hear this but I don't believe I had heard of this story.

definitely be with me for some time. in fact it might have accidentally made me aware of things with people I didn't understand and know I think I owe it to people to understand them or try to

narration is brilliant.

Just a great audiobook from Audible. Nothing to add more. The storyline leads the audience through a complicated journey involving different perspectives. The main narrator shows empathy to the victim to some extent.

Great narration!

Pamela Adlon was excellent in this horrific story but I felt it went on too long. I never heard of such a tragic case. Apart from Cindy James's severe mental state, I also felt sorry for Heidi the dog who was abused at one stage in the podcast. Who did that to the poor pet. The mind boggles with it all...

tragic story

I used to hate the Unsolveds: I like a good resolved ending, wrapped up all tidy.
This podcast/story is intriguing, troubling, and leaves so many unanswered questions.
I wish there was DNA, I wish law enforcement didn't just shrug its shoulders over dead/missing women.
I wish there was a follow up, investigating the hows & whys of this case

troubling

A perfect true crime podcast: the performance is very good, the story is even better. But have in mind that it's an unsolved case, so it won't have a clear answer what happened. If you never heard about this case - I highly recommend this podcast.

The most disturbing story ever
