• Lest We Forget Historical - Trump & the Haitians
    Sep 27 2024

In this episode of "Lest We Forget," host Lillian Cauldwell highlights Springfield, OH, where potential candidates Trump and his vice-presidential pick, JD Vance, have made claims about Haitian immigrants allegedly consuming local pets. Despite fact-checkers debunking these allegations, both continue to make inflammatory remarks, potentially inciting violence among citizens due to their staunch immigration policy stance.

The irony of this situation is not lost on those familiar with historical patterns, considering that Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance are descendants of immigrants seeking to improve their lives in the U.S.

  • The 25th Amendment & Power to the Prez
    Sep 20 2024

In this Episode of Lest We Forget Historical, Host Lillian Cauldwell discusses the 25th Amendment of the Constitution and why is the potential Republican presidential candidate wants to change the language so the amendment gives the current president the right to remove the vice president should the president deem it necessary because of conflicting moral, ethical, and political values.

Is it a power play for him to only retain political colleagues who agree with him and not represent the country's citizens or is it blackmailing the vice president to hold to the party's line? Or does it turn the president into a quasi-dictatorship with no control over the president's actions and behavior? Ms. Cauldwell explores the amendment and proposed changes that might help or hinder the republican president.

  • Lest We Forget Historical - The Palestinian Question
    Sep 13 2024

In this episode of 'Lest We Forget Historical,' host Lillian Cauldwell examines the Palestinian issue and explores both perspectives of the Middle East conflict. A decade ago, in a movie set during the Napoleonic Wars, a British Royal Navy lieutenant famously declared, "God is on our side!" to which his captain retorted, "So is He with the Spanish and French."

Many conflicts are infused with a religious undertone that motivates warriors to fight bravely. However, Ms. Cauldwell poses the question of the necessity of war versus the potential for resolution through negotiation. She invites her audience to consider the Palestine-Israel conflict and other ongoing global conflicts.

  • America's Birth Rate DeclineCauses and Consequences
    Aug 30 2024

In the latest episode of Lest We Forget Historical, host Lillian Cauldwell delves into the significant decline in birth rates among American women. Potential vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance recently highlighted this issue, stating, "If your society is not having enough children to replace itself, that is a profoundly dangerous and destabilizing thing." But this begs the question: dangerous for whom? The implications are far-reaching, cutting across political lines.

The reality is that American families are choosing to have fewer children. However, according to a January 2024 report by the Congressional Budget Office, immigration is expected to sustain or even boost population levels through 2054, despite the ongoing drop in the U.S. fertility rate.

  • The Risks of a Society with a Declining Birth Rate
    Aug 23 2024

In this installment of Part 2 - Lest We Forget Historical, host Lillian Cauldwell discusses America's declining birth rates. Lillian elaborates on how immigration significantly bolsters our economy and sustains our country's birth rates. Without a steady stream of immigrants, our population numbers would dwindle, and expanding our workforce would be unfeasible. Immigrants are vital for maintaining a balance of productive adults and children; without them, America could encounter economic challenges similar to those currently faced by Eurasia, including a plummeting birth rate.

  • Cocaine and Sharks - Alarming Discovery in the Gulf
    Aug 14 2024

In the latest episode of 'Lest We Forget Historical,' we explore the discovery of cocaine in sharks from the Gulf of Maine and Brazil. The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation reported this finding, initially covered by the BBC, after testing 13 Brazilian sharp-nosed sharks near Rio de Janeiro.

There are three potential causes for this issue: illegal drug labs discharging wastewater into the harbor, sharks ingesting cocaine packets thrown overboard to avoid law enforcement, and, most likely, local sewage discharge releasing drug users' urine. Water quality tests have consistently found high ocean drug levels, primarily from untreated sewage.

Currently, there is no straightforward method to remove drugs from wastewater. The likelihood of humans consuming medicines in the Gulf of Maine is higher than one might think. What measures can we take to prevent this?

  • How U.S. Presidents Choose Their Vice Presidents
    Aug 9 2024

In the recent episode of 'Lest We Forget Historical,' host Lillian Cauldwell explores the process by which potential presidential candidates select their vice-presidential running mates. The selection of a vice president is a rigorous, highly selective, and thoroughly documented process. Governors and senators are often favored for their experience in the executive branch at the state level.

Aaron Dusso, Associate Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, explained to the Washington Examiner that this preference stems from their executive experience. A list of potential candidates is created, and those being considered for vice president receive vetting materials.
