  • Caregiving

    Lamont (00:04.344)

Lamont Ross and this is your real life moment. As we age, we slow down, not just in our movement, but also in our cognitive functioning. And as we age, as our parents get older, we may find ourselves in a position where we are called to be caregivers. Sometimes it's caring for a parent, sometimes it may be caring for a spouse or

even a child with disabilities. Sometimes we experience being in the sandwich generation where we have to care for both children and parents at the same time. And caregiving can be overwhelming, it can be frustrating. And it's important that as you are giving care to others, that you also are caring for yourself. And so here are some ideas that can help us as we provide care for our loved ones.

First of all, prioritize your relationship with God. See, God can give you the proper perspective that you need as a caregiver. Allow God to care for you as you care for others. He'll give you the strength and He'll empower you to show grace and mercy as you are caring for others. Accept help from others. Communicate what you need. Accept.

when other people offer even to do small things for you. Ask for help from family members, from friends, outside resources like state agencies, senior care centers, even your brothers and sisters in Christ. When people offer to assist you, take them up on that offer. I know we like to do things ourselves, but it can really be a blessing when we allow others to minister to us.

and come alongside us on this journey. Also remember that this is a temporary season in your life. Things will not always be this way. And knowing that this is only a season hopefully will inspire you to push on a little bit further. And then cherish those moments that you have with your loved one. Take advantage of opportunities to show honor to your parents. Demonstrate.

    Lamont (02:26.368)

Love to your spouse. And lastly, don't neglect your other relationships. Be intentional with your time. Continue to date your spouse. Love on your children. Communicate with your friends. Make sure that you make time for yourself. Even small breaks can make a big difference. I'm Lamont Ross, and this is your Real Life Moment.
