Today's sermon-title says it all, three words, each one a point in the sermon: #1 Power #2 Weakness #3 Healing

I want to use three points to guide us through this story today- and see how we can be life-giving people:

1. The Open Door of Hospitality
2. The Commitment of Faith
3. The Guarantee of Life

The Two Main Points I want to use as our guide today are simply this… I want us to see

1. A Culture of Death, and
2. The Giver of Life.

This Fall we are taking extra time to explore a theological theme together. The Hebrew Church is calling for nonsense and they are finding that it comes. Things are murky and foggy and odd and wicked. God is exceedingly patient with His beloved bride, but nonsense is afoot. Don't fool around with holy things – take God's patience to heart: repent and believe.

ast week we saw the transfer from one prophet to the next. EliJah becomes a kind of father to his protégé, EliSHa, and gives Him the mantle of authority. The follower becomes the leader (a pattern often repeated in Scripture.)

This is about 850 BC and immediately following the transfer of office and authority is a kind of challenge to the new prophet. The chorus of prophets and the people and even the opposition demand proof. How do we know this new guy is the real thing?
