The Sober Rebel

By: Louisa Evans
  • Summary

  • Some people think that being sober is boring, they may even think that if you have to go alcohol free you've somehow drawn the short straw in life.

But what if it isn't anything like that? What if it's the best thing you could ever do to level up your relationships, your mental and physical health or even your life?

In this podcast Louisa talks to her fabulous sober guests about the joys of the sober life, the fun things they’ve noticed and the amazing things they’ve tried or done since ditching the booze that they’d never have done as a drinker.

These aren’t stories about how people got sober… they’re stories about why they enjoy staying sober.

  • Michelle on Perimenopause, Feeling Capable and Strengthening Relationships
    Nov 12 2024

Michelle is just about to celebrate 1 year of sobriety in the New Year and is over the moon at the positive changes she's experienced over that time. What's absolutely fascinating is the reduction in her perimenopause symptoms not that she isn't drinking alcohol but also how her relationships have been strengthened.

As a weekend drinker, Michelle didn't quite expect the changes she experienced and how much her mood was impacted 24/7 and not just when she was drinking alcohol.

  • Alex on Change, Connection and Giving Back
    Oct 29 2024

Hearing his son say "Dad, I need you" spurred Alex into recovery and became his 'why'. From heavy drinking in his younger years through to the grips of addiction, Alex admits he turned to alcohol in order to avoid connection and dealing with difficulties in life so when he was faced with potentially losing his sight, he only knew one way to cope and that was to drink to zone out. Fast forward to today and he's just celebrated two years sobriety, volunteers at his local gym and runs 'Club Claritee' to show people you can still have fun and attend brilliant events sober.

  • Hadley on Parenting, Mental Health and Valuing Introversion
    Oct 15 2024

In the past Hadley was known as the fitness coach who 'loved her wine' and so when she decided to go sober she really had to rethink her identity. She went from an enthusiastic social drinker most of her life to being a published author of 'The Dirty Truth On Social Drinking' and sobriety hype girl.

In this conversation Hadley talks about being a sober parent, on how her mental health has improved in sobriety and also how she now feels more able to embrace the fact she is really an introvert... it's a must listen.

As promised, here is a link to Hadley on Instagram @hadley_sorensen and also to Louisa @stepping_into_sobriety.

Relatable and Enjoyable

There are so many sobriety podcasts now, which is amazing and I love that thay all have their own uniqueness. Louisas podcast is organised, professional and structured and I love how easy it is to listen too. Great idea to have it directed around 3 benefits of sobriety. I've listened to 5 episodes so far and I'm looking forward to making my way through them all, listening to people's success stories is still a big tool for me 15 months into my own sobriety journey, the ups and downs of figuring it all out and hearing others who have felt the same reminds us that in the darkest days, we are not alone. Others have been through it and come out the other side stronger. Thanks for all your hard work Louisa.
