  • Vital wins for Liverpool, Villa and Forest, as the run-in continues this weekend
    Apr 3 2025
Jimbo welcomes Duncan Alexander, Charlie Eccleshare and Jay Harris into the studio with the Premier League back in full swing. Liverpool maintain their 12 point lead with a Merseyside derby victory, despite the failure of the officials to send off Everton’s James Tarkowski. Do tough guys get an easier time from referees? Bukayo Saka scores on his return for Arsenal but they lose Gabriel and potentially more defenders to injury. How will they cope when Real Madrid visit the Emirates next week? One of the Premier League’s fastest players Anthony Elanga scores the winner for Forest against Man United and it looks like a very exciting end of the season for Villa. This weekend brings us the Manchester derby, a chance for Leicester to break more records and a chance for Thomas Frank to show Chelsea what they could have won. Plus Merino, Tescos and the Thursday-Sunday routine for gladiators. We're asking you to fill out a quick survey about you and your podcast habits by going to theathletic.com/athletic/survey25. Three lucky entries will win £100 worth of Amazon vouchers too. Produced by Charlie Jones. • PSG almost champions as Mbappe and Lukaku bag big goals in title races
    Apr 1 2025
Jimbo’s joined by Pol Ballús, Julien Laurens, Rory Smith & Seb Stafford-Bloor as the domestic action returns across Europe with the end of the season in sight. Inter remain three points clear at the top of the Serie A table after their 2-1 win over Udinese, while Romelu Lukaku scored the 400th goal of his career in Napoli’s vital victory over struggling Milan to keep the pressure on the leaders. Over in Spain, three points is also the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid - who both recorded wins with braces from Mbappe and Lewandowski. Plus, Antony’s Betis just can’t stop winning in a fiery Seville derby. PSG continued to romp towards the Ligue 1 title - which is now all but mathematically sealed - with an emphatic 6-1 victory at Saint-Etienne, while Strasbourg are on their best run in six years after their impressive 4-2 win over Lyon. Elsewhere, Marseille suffered a hat-trick of defeats as they were beaten 3-1 by lowly Reims - their first league victory since November. And in Germany, defeat for Leipzig at Gladbach spelled the end for Marco Rose, with Thomas Tuchel’s former assistant Zsolt Low installed as interim boss. Harry Kane’s a step closer to winning his first title as he made it 58 goals in 57 Bundesliga appearances in Bayern’s 3-2 win over St Pauli. Produced by Lucy Oliva. • It’s Man City v Forest and Palace v Villa in the FA Cup semi-finals
    Mar 30 2025
Jimbo welcomes Duncan Alexander, Tom Williams and Tim Spiers into the studio after FA Cup quarter-final weekend. Man City come from behind to beat Bournemouth and progress to a 7th successive semi-final. Can Pep’s side save this from being a trophyless season? And is Bournemouth’s campaign petering out? City will face Nottingham Forest at Wembley, who beat Brighton in another penalty shootout. Hear more on why Forest have managed to have a successful season, including wearing dark glasses indoors. Tim went to see Palace in a clinical victory at Craven Cottage. Should they be favourites against Villa, given they’re one of the form teams in the country? Plus the Premier League returns this midweek with the Merseyside Derby and with two under-pressure managers meeting in Maresca and Postecoglou. Produced by Charlie Jones.
