The Women's Running Podcast

By: Esther Newman
  • Summary

  • Running is the one thing that we all like talking about. Every week on the award winning Women’s Running podcast, we talk all things running, women, health and fitness with our own brand of happy, irreverent chat. Esther and Holly talk through their training highs and lows, and all the bits and pieces in-between. Every so often, we invite an expert to join us to help us figure out the confusing worlds of training, recovery, nutrition, health and more. And sometimes we get to talk to an incredible woman from the world of running, from Anna McNuff to Paula Radcliffe, Susie Chan to Nicky Spinks. So why do we do it? Because we realised that most of the running podcasts we listened to were full of blokes waffling on about quads and cadence (and we realised that we can do that perfectly well ourselves, thank you very much). Right here, we talk about all the things that affect us when we step out the door: sexism, hormones, menopause, food, pelvic floors, relationships, mental health, seagull attacks and wild weeing. But. BUT. We will also talk about races, PBs, shoes, training, starting running, enjoying running, finding the fun. And quads and cadence. This is the Women’s Running podcast, and it’s for women who love to run. Get bonus content on Patreon

  • Ep 216. Big changes and trail marathons
    Oct 3 2024

Welcome to episode 216 of the Women’s Running podcast. I’m your host Esther Newman and she’s your other host Holly Taylor. On this podcast we talk about health, politics, stuff on TV and what we ate last night. Occasionally, we talk about running.

    House move

So Holly has finally arrived in her new house, and as we all know a house move is a Big Change, so we talk about that and how she’s coping, aside from getting irritated with Doug.

    Marathon nerves

On my side, I’ve got my Trail Escape marathon coming up this weekend, and I’m trying to suck up all the positive vibes without throwing too many of them in Holly’s face. There’s a lot to worry about, and I hope you can relate to some of them: the weather has been awful so I’m very worried about the mud, my hormones have been all over the place, and this cold won’t shift. All of which is adding up to a number of things that are out of my control come race day. But it’s not a race. It’s a run. And I can’t wait to report back next week.

    Sep 26 2024

Welcome to episode 215 of the Women’s Running podcast. I’m your host Esther Newman and she’s your other host Holly Taylor. On this podcast we talk about health, politics, stuff on TV and what we ate last night. Occasionally, we talk about running.

    London Vitality 10,000

We’re recording the day after completing the London Vitality 10,000 and we have a huge race report to give you – we talk about completing a 10K with not a huge amount of training, how strength training has helped with our running and our confidence.

    Tales from the Pod

We’ve got another Pod Squadder for you in our favourite segment where we talk to you and find out more about *your* running, so you’re not constantly listening to us and our running. This week we talk to gorgeous Martine from Guernsey who gives us all the Channel Island gossip. Martine went from zero to marathon in about five minutes, but has subsequently had to build up slowly again after significant injury. Lots to relate to here!

  • Ep 214. Vitality 10K, Trail, Men
    Sep 19 2024

Welcome to episode 214 of the Women’s Running podcast. I’m your host Esther Newman and she’s your other host Holly Taylor. On this podcast we talk about health, politics, stuff on TV and what we ate last night. Occasionally, we talk about running.

    Big change

Holly is feeling unwell, and is super-stressed with a house move, so there’s lots to talk about right away. And then of course it’s the London Vitality 10,000 this weekend, and it’s been suggested we run it in our pants. Of couse we jumped at the chance! Only joking. I’ll be running in a wetsuit as usual. If you’re coming, we can’t wait to see you there.

    Trail Marathon

I’ve also been training for my trail marathon in October, which is a beautiful run organized by new event company Trail Escape – do check them out to see what’s coming up next year as I think they’re plotting some gorgeous events.

    Bloody men

Then on to the big conversations – how do you feel about men taking their tops off in public (aside from at the beach). Holly is in the defense corner, and it doesn’t take long to work out why… Listen in for a surprise guest appearance.

Best running pod out there!

I take Esther and Holly out with me when I go running, and their banter makes everything easier! It’s like having a running group of my very own! Plus, I’ve finally found a pod with runners I can actually relate to, which is brilliant! I love it so much - thank you Esther and Holly!
