Wine & Vinyl Club

By: Chris David and Christian
  • Summary

  • Welcome to the Wine and Vinyl Club. A podcast for people who love drinking wine and listening to good music. Once a fortnight David, Chris and Christian discuss an album from an eclectic mix of classics from the Beatles through to Harry Styles. Then the fun part, we attempt to match a bottle of wine to the album and also sample a value wine and occaisionally a cocktail too. We hope to encourage our listeners to try something different when drinking or listening to music and most importantly have a laugh with us.

  • S4 Ep3. 1989 by Taylor Swift
    Nov 27 2024

For this episode we are joined by Kate and new guest to the W&VC, Adam. Chris, David and Christian don’t fall into the demographic that Taylor’s work is aimed at, so we enlisted the expert help of a couple of youngsters.
It can’t be denied that Taylor is a cultural phenomenon and arguably one of the most influential people in the world today, but how does her album 1989 stack up as a piece of artistic work. As always there are insights, disagreements, laughs and lots of booze. Enjoy!

Every episode the podcast has an accompanying Spotify Playlist. Below is a link to 30 curated tracks from a selection of tunes from this episode’s album, plus additional artists we think you might like if you enjoyed listening to this album.

To match ‘1989’ Christian brings a 2022 Hugh Hamilton Cinderella Chardonay (members only) from the McClarren Vale, in South Australia. https://hughhamiltonwines.com.au/

This episode David brings two value wines recommended by two different bottle shops. The first was a Spanish white wine recommended by Midland Dan Murphy’s. The Marqués de Riscal 2022 Verdejo for $16.99 https://www.marquesderiscal.com/en

The second wine recommended by Copper and Oak in Guildford, is the Zema Estate, Coonawarra 2018 Shiraz $22.00 https://www.zema.com.au/product/2018-Shiraz?srsltid=AfmBOopJ7ZAFr_jXIpQlViOiWB0v54prtQHoOvir0qeKGKc1Lw-ZX0Zz

    WINE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THIS EPISODE:

If you like the Verdejo, you might also like a Swan Valley Chenin or Verdelho. If you like the cool climate style of the Coonawarra Shiraz, look for a French or Australian Syrah. This is still the shiraz grape but usually indicates a more delicate, cool climate style.

Adam ventured outside the wine realm and recommended Boston Brewery Peach Lemonade produced by Boston Brewery from Denmark, WA.

  • S4 Ep2. The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
    Nov 13 2024

What a polarizing album! David loves it, Christian hates it and Chris is wavering somewhere between love and hate. How will you feel once you’ve listened to this episode? What we can all agree on is how good the wines were for this episode.

Every episode the podcast has an accompanying Spotify Playlist. Below is a link to 30 tracks made from a selection of tunes from this episode’s album, plus additional artists we think you might like if you enjoyed listening to this album.

W&VC SPOTIFY PLAYLISTS – S4 Ep2. The Smiths: The Queen Is Dead

    https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6bBTHsNYWV0xmp0q4bIpnF?si=0a085e00f38046a1

To match ‘The Queen is Dead’ Chris brings a $28 2020 Bodega Garzon Tannat Reserva, from Uruguay. https://bodegagarzon.com/en/wine/tannat-2020/

This episode Chris also brings the value wine as David forgot. He brings an $18 2021 Amelia Park Trellis, Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River in Western Australia. https://ameliaparkwines.com.au/products/2021-amelia-park-trellis-cabernet-merlot

    WINE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THIS EPISODE:

100% Tannat may prove hard to come by, however, Chris suggests if a big tannic wine is what you fancy how about a Cabernet Sauvignon from Bordeaux, a powerful Barossa Shiraz or even a Nebbiolo from Italy. Or another Italian wine with even more tannins is the Sagrantino.

  • S4 Ep1. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John
    Oct 31 2024

Welcome back to another season of the W&VC. We’ve been gone a longtime and we are very excited to be back listening, drinking, and laughing with each other again. There are some changes to the format of the show and a few new members will join us throughout the season, but we’re still the Wine & Vinyl Club as you know and love us.

Every episode the podcast has an accompanying Spotify Playlist. Below is a link to 30 tracks made from a selection of tunes from this episode’s album, plus additional artists we think you might like if you enjoyed listening to this album.

    https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2JGnjKPzSKvJUb5X0p7sBK?si=5ec1422e3b8644ad

To match Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Chris brings a $21 2019 Cielo e Terra De Conti Appassimento IGT Organic, from Puglia in Italy. https://cieloeterravini.com/en/

David brings the value wine for this episode, which is the $28 Little Giant Free Grenache (LGF). Little Giant is a very successful Aussie wine brand from Fourth Wave. https://www.fourthwavewine.com.au/littlegiantswine-home

    WINE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THIS EPISODE:

Chris and Christian suggest looking for a European Pinot Noir (Spatburgunder) to get that earthiness David was hoping for or try a more expensive Australian or NZ Pinot.
The Appassimento should be reasonably available or you could try two other Italian varieties Valpolicella or Amarone (they can be quite sweet).
