You know those guys who play poker for millions of dollars on television? I'm not one of those guys. Instead, I risked my life on a nightly basis playing in underground poker games on Long Island and in Charlotte. This story is about how I managed to survive, but just barely.

To the average American, there was nothing out of the ordinary about Edmund Kemper before 1973. Standing at six-foot-nine, the young man was a giant, but he was gentle, soft spoken, and shy. He lived with his mother into his mid-20s and frequented local bars, cozying up to police officers. This was one reality of Kemper's life - the reality he wanted those around him to see. In this fourth and final installment of the Detective Ace Sloan series, Sloan must solve the murders of multiple members of a prominent Martian family and a distinguished poet all while cultivating a relationship with a new lover and dealing with a sudden serious health issue. More than ever, he must lean on Detective Kate Hammer to assist him in solving the crimes.

It appears Roger may have a secret love interest. Both Aggie and Betty are curious to learn more about this mysterious person named Pat that has Roger doing things out of his comfort zone, like going to a park to see the fireworks and making dinner reservations for an expensive restaurant. As Aggie and Betty indulge in some snooping, they accidentally stumble over a dead body that helps to solve a mystery. Unfortunately, it’s not the mystery they’d set out to solve. Will they ever learn more about Roger’s significant other?

Peter is a brokenhearted degenerate gambler and pothead. His life appears to be aimless until he shows up for a job interview at The Poker Office. With riches as well as women and sex for the taking, Peter thinks his life has turned the corner, but after falling in love with the wrong girl (or perhaps the right girl), he quickly creates powerful and relentless enemies, which leads his life much deeper into the abyss. It's a cat and mouse game, and the only solution presents a major dilemma.
