"The Beautiful and Damned", first published by Scribner's in 1922, is F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel. The Fitzgeralds went to France in the spring of 1924 to get away from all the hubbub, and he wrote his masterpiece The Great Gatsby during the summer and autumn in Valescure near St. Raphael, France.
