Political commentator David Frum on this edition of Fresh Air. From January 2001 to February 2002 he was a special assistant to President Bush for economic speech-writing. He held the position during the 9/11 attacks and he is the man responsible for the oft-repeated Bush term "axis of evil." Frum is the author of the new book, The Right Man: The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush an inside account of the White House.

Special effects artist Ray Harryhausen and actress and rapper Queen Latifah on this edition of Fresh Air. Ray Harryhausen created model-animation and composite cinematography techniques. His trademark Dynamation method made possible a whole genre of science fiction and fantasy filmmaking.

Activist Floyd Cochran on this archive edition of Fresh Air. Cochran used to be a recruiter and public relations man for the racist, anti-Semitic Aryan Nations, based in Idaho. In 1992, Cochran left the group and denounced it and its racist views. Now he travels the country speaking out against white supremacy movements and the philosophy of hatred. British actor Terence Stamp on this edition of Fresh Air. He's best known for his roles in the 1960s films Billy Budd, and The Collector in which he played a sociopathic entomologist. He also was in Far from the Madding Crowd. After working with Fellini in Italy and with other Italian directors, he took a nine-year hiatus. He returned to the screen in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and recently in The Limey. His latest film is My Wife Is an Actress.

Doctor Peter Piot on this archive edition of Fresh Air. Since 1994, he's been the director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS and the executive director of UN AIDS, the UN agency coordinating the fight against the disease. He also co-discovered the Ebola virus. He's considered the UN's top AIDS official. He says Asian countries need to take AIDS prevention and treatment more seriously, as they are only at the beginning of the epidemic. Countries most affected are Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Investigative reporter Lowell Bergman on this archive edition of Fresh Air. His work exposing the tobacco industry became the hit film The Insider. He was portrayed by Al Pacino. Bergman is a contributor to The New York Times. Last year, he produced a PBS Frontline documentary called Blackout. The documentary aired last year and reveals the story behind California's energy crisis and rolling blackouts.

Record producers Charles Granata and Didier Deutsch talking about Frank Sinatra on this edition of Fresh Air. Charles Granata and Didier Deutsch have collaborated on the new CD box set, Frank Sinatra In Hollywood (1940-1964) which collects Sinatra's film recordings - many of them rare. In fact, only ten percent of the 160 tracks included on the collection have been released before. Granata is a Sinatra historian and author of Sessions with Sinatra: Frank Sinatra and the Art of Recording.

Authors Peter Huchthausen and Gary Shteyngart on this edition of Fresh Air. Peter Huchthausen is the author of K19: The Widowmaker: The Secret Story of the Soviet Nuclear Submarine. The true story of a barely averted catastrophe aboard the nuclear powered submarine has been adapted into a film of the same name starring Harrison Ford. Huchthausen served as technical director on the film. On July 4, 1961, the sub was taking part in a military exercise in the North Atlantic.

Journalist Matthew Brzezinski and remembering Timothy White, the editor-in-chief of Billboard Magazine on this edition of Fresh Air. Matthew Brzezinski wrote about the global narcotics industry in the June 23, 2002 issue of The New York Times Magazine. His cover story is "Heroin: The Sleek New Business Model for the Ultimate Global Product". Timothy White, the editor in chief of Billboard Magazine died Thursday at the age of 50. He was in his office at the time.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss on this edition of Fresh Air. His book Reaching for Glory: The Secret Lyndon Johnson Tapes, 1964-1965 is now out in paperback. It is Beschloss's second volume on the LBJ tapes. Beschloss will talk about the tapes, and we will hear excerpts, including some recordings of conversations about Vietnam, Civil Rights, and with Jackie Kennedy.

The New Yorker cartoon editor Bob Mankoff and The Onion writers Robert Siegel and Carol Kolb on this edition of Fresh Air. Bob Mankoff's new book is The Naked Cartoonist: A New Way to Enhance Creativity. It's a how-to of cartooning and a collection of New Yorker cartoons, including many of Mankoff's own. Journalist Robin Wright and military expert Deborah Avant on this edition of Fresh Air. Robin Wright works for the Los Angeles Times as the chief diplomatic correspondent. Wright has just returned from Iran, Iraq and Kurdistan. She'll talk about the future of the Persian Gulf if the U.S. goes to war with Iraq and ousts Saddam Hussein. Deborah Avant is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the George Washington University.

War correspondent and CNN's former international correspondent Peter Arnett and Retired Navy Captain Peter Huchthausen on this edition of Fresh Air. Peter Arnett became best known for his reporting from Baghdad during the allied bombing raid which heralded the start of the Gulf War. Arnett has more than 30 years of experience reporting, mostly for the Associated Press.

Writer William Langewiesche on this edition of Fresh Air. He is national correspondent for The Atlantic Monthly. He writes about the recovery effort and the deconstruction of the World Trade Center in his new book, American Ground: Unbuilding the World Trade Center.

In the past, Burns has been posted in China, Bosnia, South Africa and Russia. He has won two Pulitzer Prizes; one was for his reporting on the Taliban.

Journalist Owen Bennet Jones and Brazilian songwriter Caetano Veloso on this edition of Fresh Air. Owen Bennet Jones is the author of the new book, Pakistan: Eye of the Storm. In the book he examines the turbulent 55-year history of the country. He'll discuss the country's history and its current relationship with the United States. Jones is based in England.

Film director Steven Shainberg and jazz vocalist and snare drummer Suzy Arioli on this edition of Fresh Air. Steven Shainberg's made his second feature film, Secretary, a story of a young woman whose obsessive life is turned upside down when she enters a sadomasochistic relationship with her boss. The screenplay is based on a short story by Mary Gaitskill.

Host of NPR's The Tavis Smiley show, Tavis Smiley and the head of Afghanistan's Human Rights Commission, Dr. Sima Samar on this edition of Fresh Air. Tavis Smiley is the author of the new book Keeping the Faith: Stories of Love, Courage, Healing, and Hope from Black America. The book is a collection of personal narratives by ordinary African Americans.
