Margaret’s father died in a car crash near his coastal Maine summer home. She has come to retrieve his dog and belongings and stepped into a war for this strange little town’s soul. This project seeks to tell the stories of underrepresented Vermonters who were made invisible during the eugenics era. Our research focuses on the people targeted by Vermont’s 1931 sterilization law which promoted an inaccurate and discriminatory pseudoscience. Each episode will focus on the life of one individual, aiming to reconsider them as more than simply a victim in the history of eugenics. Our hope is to connect the past to the present by considering how these themes are still at play today.

Being an English author in a new and different culture seems to work its magic when these two are placed together in the same spot with a rich vocabulary; ideas seem more fully formed and characters have another edge to their existence. For the outsider looking in, more can be revealed and shared with ourselves.
