Ce matin-là, lorsque Gregor Samsa veut se lever pour aller travailler, quelque chose l'en empêche. C'est en réalité son propre corps qui s'est métamorphosé en insecte pendant la nuit. Désormais, il n'inspire que le dégoût, et n'a plus aucune autonomie. Personne ne croit à sa capacité à ressentir des émotions malgré son aspect monstrueux. La métamorphose s'opère également dans le comportement de ceux qu'il aime et qui ne veulent plus de lui, dans son rapport à l'espace, à lui-même et à l'existence.

"A Report to an Academy" (German: "Ein Bericht für eine Akademie") is a short story by Franz Kafka, written and published in 1917. In the story, an ape named Red Peter, who has learned to behave like a human, presents to an academy the story of how he effected his transformation. The story was first published by Martin Buber in the German monthly Der Jude, along with another of Kafka's stories, "Jackals and Arabs" ("Schakale und Araber").

Ein Hungerkünstler lebt zunächst in Zeiten, in denen in der Öffentlichkeit ein reges Interesse an seiner Kunst besteht. In seinem Gitterkäfig wird er vom Publikum von Hungertag zu Hungertag interessiert begutachtet und bewundert. Für den Hungerkünstler ist aber das andauernde Hungern "die leichteste Sache von der Welt". Er leidet darunter, dass man ihm das nicht glaubt, ihm möglicherweise sogar unterstellt, geschickt heimlich zu essen, oder ihm zumindest absichtlich die Möglichkeit dazu gibt. Zudem besteht sein Impresario darauf, dass er nach vierzig Tagen das Hungern beenden solle.

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka tells the story of Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman who wakes up one morning transformed into a giant insect. Unable to communicate and increasingly alienated from his family, Gregor becomes a burden. Once the family’s provider, he is now confined to his room, suffering neglect and isolation. As time passes, his presence becomes unbearable to his family. Eventually, Gregor dies, and his family feels relieved. "A Report to an Academy" is a short story by Franz Kafka, written and published in 1917. The narrator, speaking before a scientific conference, describes his former life as an ape. His story begins in a West African jungle, in which a hunting expedition shoots and captures him. Caged on a ship for his voyage to Europe, he finds himself for the first time without the freedom to move as he will.

The first of Kafka’s three great novels, The Man Who Disappeared (America) follows the picaresque adventures of Karl Rossman, who is banished to America following a family scandal. Upon his arrival, Karl immediately happens upon his uncle, and from there follows a pattern of wandering, adoption and expulsion as Karl marches inexorably on towards the interior of the continent. With its blitheness and comical moments, The Man Who Disappeared is perhaps the most charming of Kafka’s works.

A man known only as K. arrives in a mysterious town where an all-powerful castle filled with unseen "gentlemen" controls every aspect of life. When the ridiculous bureaucracy of the castle officials makes K.'s original reason for coming to the village, working as a land surveyor, seem impossible, K. must find a way to make a life within a system where the only answer he ever seems to get is "no". K. struggles in vain to get in contact with anyone at all within the castle to help solve his predicament. But still, there may be some tenderness to be found in this absurdist landscape.

Así comienza un proceso laberíntico en el que se ve inmerso y lo lleva a tomar conciencia de sí mismo y reflexionar sobre su propia existencia, sobre la pérdida de la inocencia y la aparición de la muerte.
