Don Juan Belvideore, the young and spoiled son of the wealthy aristocrat Bartolammeo Belvidore, visits his father after being told that his father is on death bed by a maid. During this visit, the father tells his son about an elixir in one of his drawers and wants him to put on this liquid on his body after his death. The Vicar of Tours is an 1832 novella that tells the story of the Abbé François Birotteau and the Abbé Hyacinthe Troubert, priests at Tours, who have separate lodgings in the house of Sophie Gamard.
