Does time heal all wounds? Or do some last forever? Pennsylvania, 1971: Graham Davidson is a young man with survivor’s guilt after the death of three siblings. Estranged from his father and seeking a direction in his life, Graham learns about vision quests from a Crow Indian. He secures seasonal employment in Yellowstone National Park and embarks on a spiritual journey. Wyoming Territory, 1871: Under a full moon at a sacred thermal area, Graham finds himself in Yellowstone a century earlier - one year before it was established as a national park.

Morgan and Eli, two Indigenous children forced away from their families and communities, are brought together in a foster home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They each feel disconnected, from their culture and each other, and struggle to fit in at school and at their new home—until they find a secret place, walled off in an unfinished attic bedroom. A portal opens to another reality, Askí, bringing them onto frozen, barren grounds, where they meet Ochek (Fisher).

In this post-apocalyptic world, snow, ice, and death prevail. The remnants of humanity have survived by relearning ancient ways. Some villages cooperate with each other, but there are tribes which have turned to murder and theft to ensure their own success. Three orphaned friends wander alone through this precarious world. Teek, Lance, and Kateesh have all suffered traumatic losses which shattered their faith in their fellow human beings. They are sure that they can count on each other, but that certitude is shaken when violence rages into their lives once again.
