Summary
He was supposed to be a myth.
But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell...he was, quite simply, mine.
Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But all that's ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city's dark facade.
With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil's bargain with a man she once believed a myth...a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed.
Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he's spent years craving, it's all the excuse he needs to help her - for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he'll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close....

Olympus behind the door
Very much enjoyed the constant nudge to the mythical world and the feel of magic without ever actually having the supernatural in it. Hades and Persephone is always a tale worth telling, retelling and re-imagining.

voice actors weirdly voiced opposing roles
the voice overs trying to imitate the male and female parts within either Hades or Persephones section... terrible. why couldn't they stick to reading each character.
It made my laugh tbh and they sounded very silly.

great twist
would have been better to keep indervidual voices instead of throwing their voices to try and sound like each other

over hyped
Although I enjoyed the story I don't think it lives up to all the hype on TikTok

Weird narration
I enjoyed this story although I found it a bit slow. However the narration was bizarre. A modern day Olympus where the inhabitants have regional British accents is really strange. The male actor did that whinny voice for women that men do to annoy and the female narrators interpretation of Hades accent was bizarre and a bit off putting. Don’t think I will stick with this series. Just not for me.

3.5 Stars
3.5 Stars. I've been putting this off for a while because it's still so incredibly popular and I didn't want to get swept up in the hype. That said, while I didn't hate this, I didn't love it like I thought I would. It had all the tools to be a hit; KR signature flair, kink, diversity, greek myth and the beginnings of a series I'm probably going to love. But and it's a pretty big but; while it had all those things, they didn't give 100% of what I wanted them to give. Hades was so...nice. Nothing really happens and the Zeus stuff wraps up a little too clean for my liking. All in all, I'm underwhelmed. Will I check out Electric Idol? Probably. Am I weak for Ms. Roberts? Absolutely.

Easy recommendation!
Let me start by saying that it took me way longer than it should have to finish this book, and it's in no way the book's fault. I just read less over the summer. The book did fine.
Folks, this was really well narrated! Persephone and Hades have their own narrators, which added a lot of personality.
I loved the relationships between Persephone and Psyche and was thrilled when we finally got a bit more of that, and between Persephone and Hermes. And I also just adored Hermes. She's the secret hero of this book for me.
My only two issues with it are really personal and may well be wins for you: I found the erotic language somewhat cringy at times - not all the way through, it was just parts that didn't vibe with me - and I'm generally not a fan of the 'the gods are just humans with their names passed down as titles' trope.
Anyway if you love a lot of smut with your mythology representation, I can just about guarantee you'll love this book!
