My process in writing Chasing the Blue Boat began by recounting a time of following my brother when we were children on an impulsive adventure where one slip might have been disastrous. But in first grade, you don't think about those things. By surprise, the plot turned to losing a loved one. It evolved into the story of one family's passage through grief, anger, doubt, and finally, peace as their lives changed in unimaginable ways. I cried and laughed through my characters' journeys.
