A Canadian-American family therapist, Douglas Flemons, PhD, LMFT, is an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor. He is Professor Emeritus of Couple and Family Therapy and former Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). During his 30-year career at the university, he taught and supervised clinical graduate students, directed two mental health clinics, and codirected the university’s Office of Suicide and Violence Prevention. Dr. Flemons is the author, coauthor, or coeditor of seven books and the author or coauthor of 60 articles and book chapters, each of which develops and illuminates a systemic approach to learning and practicing brief therapy, clinical hypnosis, suicide assessment, supervision, sex therapy, academic writing, or qualitative research. He is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, which, in 2021, honored him with the Milton H. Erickson Award for Scientific Excellence in Writing on Clinical Hypnosis for his article, “Toward a Relational Theory of Hypnosis.” He and his wife (and colleague), Shelley Green, live in North Carolina, where they co-direct their private practice, Context Consultants.
