My name is Ilana Garon. I was born in Washington, DC, and spent a few years in Paris, France (where I gained three brothers, much to my surprise) before my family moved back to northern Virginia. I came to New York City to attend Barnard College...and somehow managed to spend nearly two decades there. Wow, how did that happen? For fifteen years, I taught 9th-12th grade English at a public high school in the Bronx, which was exhilarating, exhausting, and frequently hilarious. During that time I also wrote regularly about education, teaching, and related issues; my first book, WDOWPGABA, is in that vein, but hopefully a more humorous take on the issues than readers are accustomed to. In 2017, I married into the US Military and--thanks to Uncle Sam--have had the chance to live with my active-duty spouse in and around Nashville, Kansas City, and most recently, my old stomping grounds of Washington, DC. During this time, I taught English at a community college (different than teaching high school, but no less challenging), and began full-time working as a freelance writer. I also became a mom. Goodbye, sleep! In my copious free time, I read anything that isn't nailed down (from highbrow literature to romance novels, and everything in between), run competitively, watch weird German dramas on Netflix, and spend time with my growing family. I love chocolate frosted donuts, iced coffee, The New Yorker magazine, and every mountain I've ever encountered. Thanks for viewing my page!
