Miriam Pharo, born in the Andalusian Córdoba in 1966, spent her childhood on the picturesque Atlantic island Oléron in the southwest of France. She came to Germany when she was 9 years old. Until this moment she had never seen houses up to the horizon and believed that snow was pink. Later on, she studied Slavic and Romance philology as well as political science in Mainz and Heidelberg. Miriam Pharo mainly writes sci-fi thrillers. Although, her "Hanseapolis" cycle is settled in Northern Germany, it nevertheless takes the readers into other parts of the world such as London, Osaka and Venice in the year 2066. The third volume "Prelude" (Präludium) is based upon the 24 preludes by Frédéric Chopin playing a key role in the novel. In addition, she started a sci-fi crime series entitled ISAR 2066. Her readers call the style of the series a kind of Douglas Adams with a Bavarian touch. Besides, four of her short stories have been published with German and Austrian publishing houses. The genres are ranging from horror to magic realism. "Miriam Pharo disposes of a very good feeling for scenic compositon, cuts and assembly which is undoubtedly influenced by a cinematic narrative.
