Originally from the North East of England, I grew up around communities dominated by mining and other heavy industry, and the discovery that tunnelling took place under the trenches during the First World War was a revelation to me, and became the driving force and inspiration behind the book. I'm a musician, have a degree in Ecology and am a founding partner and director of a sustainability consultancy. Cut The Canary’s Claws is a work of fiction dealing with mental health issues unique to the time of the conflict and is also based on historical fact. This is my first novel.
