Stephen is an award winning, Essex-based writer. He is best known for books on land access problems in the UK and Ireland, and notable solutions. He was a volunteer surveyor on the England Coast Path. Works include Wild Camping (2015) Wild Camping II (2020) and the England Coast Path (2020). All three are published by Bloomsbury. His collective fictional and non fictional works on the nature, landscape and histories of Essex – posted under his moniker Wild Essex @ wildessex.com – received multiple awards, including the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild Prize for Digital Production of the Year (2016). The Wild Essex project was a collaboration with art students from SEEVIC college in Essex and is temporarily out of stock. It will be re-released as a paperback in 2022. He specialises in working with local councils to produce immersive videos that help regenerate tidal cities, towns and villages in England and Wales. He is a former lecturer in journalism at University of Essex and South Essex College. Stephen has worked previously as a BBC journalist, and as a freelance writer for the Chinese state news agency Xinhua.
