Wanjiru Warama is a biographical and historical nonfiction author with over twelve years of experience bringing untold stories to life. Her latest work in the THE COLONIZED series explores the lived experiences of African peasant farmworkers during the colonial era—stories that have long been overlooked in mainstream history. Born and raised on a British colonial farm in Kenya, Wanjiru is the daughter of peasant laborers who had no formal education. Her writing is deeply shaped by this unique upbringing, her travels across all seven continents, and her journey as an immigrant in the United States. Through her books, she shines a light on personal and collective histories that enlighten, entertain, and inspire—while encouraging others to preserve and share their own stories. Wanjiru is the author of seven books and a personal essay, including Unexpected America, The British vs. Kenya’s Mau Mau, and The Colonial Farm. She is currently working on the fourth book in THE COLONIZED series, slated for release in late 2025. Having grown up in a home without books, Wanjiru understands the transformative power of education. Her own high school struggles—marked by poverty and resilience—are the subject of her upcoming memoir. She believes education is the most powerful tool for breaking free from the dehumanizing grip of poverty. An active philanthropist and advocate for literacy, Wanjiru is a lifetime member of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, the Rotary Club, and the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild. In her free time, she enjoys pickleball, yoga, walking, good food, great conversations, and, of course, reading. Wanjiru lives in California, USA.
