Summary

1957 - Young Queen Elizabeth II is finding her way in a challenging world as the United Kingdom must adjust to having neither an empire nor a set place in post-war Europe.

As she travels the world to try and build bridges, the Queen is advised by the 'men in moustaches', as Philip calls them - her father's old courtiers, who may or may not have her best interests at heart. One of them is trying to sabotage her: that much she is sure of.

And then two bodies turn up, horribly murdered, in Chelsea, and the Queen finds herself unwillingly used as the alibi for somebody very close to her.

Elizabeth knows she can't face these challenges alone. She needs support from someone clever, discreet and loyal, someone she can trust. Then she meets ex-Bletchley Park code breaker, Joan McGraw, and their investigation into the murders begins in earnest . . .

Great series!

Have listened to all of these books and they are excellent! Samantha Bond has just the right voice for all of the characters and reads beautifully. Can absolutely see the Queen as a sleuth and can’t wait for the next one!

A Death in Diamonds

love the whole series. Great Characters. I found the process more enjoyable than the discovery of how the murder was committed

A Death in Diamonds

This book does not follow on, but goes back in time, perhaps to when the Queen might have started solving murders! The new set of charactors we are introduced to almost makes you think you are starting a new serise. Still with great strong female leads, that help the Queen find the clues to solve the puzzle. Read brillianty again by Samanth Bond.

I love this series of books

And what a fantastic narrator Samantha Bond is. One of the best in the business. All her voices are in character, easily distinguished from one and other and on point. A real joy to listen too.

Love love love this series!

Samantha Bond is brilliant and only enhances the book. Once you experience superb narration, it’s problematic as I have had to stop and return books which do not.

Plot is creative and entertaining and I just wish the next book were available.

I was wondering after the first three in the series how the author would deal with the Queen’s death etc but brilliant to go back time.

Wonderful relationships

The growth of the relationship between the characters is brilliant. I love the queen and Joan. Two great women in a cast of pompous men. I loved it.

Portrayal of the period and credible plot together with great characterisation.

I loved the reverence for the much beloved Queen especially so soon after her death.

The reading and dramatisation by Samantha Bond maintains the fun, the dignity and tge thrills and spills of the plot.
Thank you
