About this listen
Put the kettle on and discover an utterly charming new cozy murder mystery set in a sleepy English seaside town.
Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead.
Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it.
When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.
With plenty of tea and cake along the way, and despite squabbles with their rivals, the Cats Alliance across the street, the Charity Shop Detective Agency is born.
Fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Janice Hallett, Simon Brett, Ian Moore, and Sarah Yarwood-Lovett will adore this exciting new talent in cozy crime.

Lazy, unimaginative writing
The blurb says that fans of The Thursday Murder Club, Janice Hallett, Simon Brett, Ian Moore… will adore this exciting new talent. After such a list of genuine talent, I suggest anybody new to this author keep their expectations grounded. The Charity Shop Detective Agency has none of the class of Osman or the humour of Moore, it’s another example of the lightheartedness of the cosy crime genre being used as an excuse for lazy, unimaginative writing. It’s not clever, the characters aren’t particularly loveable, there’s a distinct lack of humour. I listened all the way through because I think it’s the only fair way to judge a book, but I do feel I’ve wasted some hours of my life. First and last read by me of this author.

similarities to the Marlow murders and Thursday murder club.
I do prefer English detective series without unnecessary brutality and violence, a marvellous well thought out story line.

A lovely gentle read
Came across this book after searching for stories performed by my favourite narrator Zara Ramm, and I'm so pleased I did. Genuinely likeable characters (including Simon Le Bon 🤣), enjoyed how the tale unfolded and draws the reader in. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Pleasant surprise
Wasn’t sure when I chose it if I would enjoy it but picked it because it sounded a bit different. I really enjoyed the book it moved along nicely with lovely bits of detail. I liked the characters and enjoyed the twisty path I was taken on .

The story, I thought was not great! I found it dull and it was only the performance that kept me persevering
