About this listen

Lulia Vasile is a gypsy and proud of it. She's a master fencer and skilled at fortune-telling. She grew up playing roles in a traveling theater and performing at county fairs. Her life changed when she became friends with an earl's daughter and became involved in an exclusive ladies-only gaming den. She's successful but misses her family. She travels to their last known location to spend Christmastide with them. While there, she must decide what she wants for her future.

Finley Prescott, the duke of Clare, doesn't leave his estate unless it's necessary. His injuries at Waterloo have left him bitter, and he never expected to inherit the dukedom. That was supposed to be his brother's duty. Now, he has responsibilities and people who depend on him when all he wants is to disappear from the world. For him, all hope is gone, and he's not the hero England believes him to be.

After a chance meeting and a magical kiss, Lulia and Finley discover that sometimes, the one thing a person needs is the last thing they expect.

I liked this second chance romance, I think I would have liked more interaction initiallyy between the characters to justify their dreaming about each other for 12 years. Not the biggest fan of insta-love types but since it is a quicker listen, I don't mind it as much. What I liked most about this listen was that Lulia foresees that she and Fin will be together but that he rushes out before she is able to tell him. I also really liked that Lulia was proud to be part gypsy in a time period where they weren't very highly looked upon. I do think I would have liked a little bit more incorporation of Christmas since it is in the title. It was an enjoyable winter listen.

I enjoyed this narrator's performance. I think her accent really makes this feel more like a regency romance. Her accent is a little different than a usual British accent, but I think it makes the story more unique. She did a great job differentiating characters and keeping things consistent.

I love a Regency romance tale and especially those set at Christmas and this one was sweet and beautiful and heartwarming! I liked the gypsy, fortune-telling twist to this story at the beginning and felt so much pain and anguish for poor Fin but I liked the way we skipped a few years and got to the happier bit with our two main characters quickly. I really liked the extra characters in this story - their friends really added something to their inner thoughts and helped them get to their HEA which is refreshing in a Regency story. I like the way Lulia had a mixed heritage but although this was frowned upon by some she was still part of the society that Fin mixed with which helped with their decisions and transitions into a relationship. Megan's narrating was great I love listening to her 'Historical' voice as she takes me straight to that era and I thought Lulia's voice was effective, making sure you remembered her culture throughout the story. Lovely story that I would recommend and read again!
