Short, bloody and dirty!

I had seen the film of this book with a decent cast so I thought I might enjoy the book. There's no Kindle edition so decided to get the audiobook..

The quality of the audio though... is awful... very hissy... The performance flat and if you've got a thing about mouth noise, and constant breathing then I would steer clear from this. It certainly isn't to a standard that you could listen to with headphones without wanting to kill somebody!

Speaking of which.. a lot of seemingly casual killing in the book that doesn't really go anywhere.

Entertaining, but short and the audiobook is appalling... considering the quality control team take so long to approve a book, I'm amazed this actually got through! I can only assume it was released at a time where there wasn't any QC!

The audiobook is also produced by a major publisher who should know better. Just goes to show that BIG NAMES don't mean BIG quality.

Once a murderer, what the heck.

Where does A Simple Plan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not highest, but I did really enjoy this one. Makes you wonder what people stoop to when presented with the chance of theft by finding £4m.

What other book might you compare A Simple Plan to, and why?

It'd have to be a murder story. Maybe 'Leadbelly' by John Silvester, about the 1970's Australian gangland killings. Pointless because in the end everyone gets hit. Perhaps this is bit of an accidental mini mafia minus 'family loyalty' rules.

What about Griffin Dunne’s performance did you like?

This was fine. Read in the first person.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The escalating compromised morals of all main characters. Eventually no-one can trust anyone. In real life you would expect at least one upstanding person to be reviled enough to blow this 'Simple Plan'.

Any additional comments?

This is not organised crime as such, with willing participants accepting clear rules and loyalties.. Therefore, with so many inadvertent parties in the know, it's a bit implausible how everyone keeps quiet and sticks to the plan. That is. all the time they think it's working in their interest.

A great read

Loved it, found the narrator great very clear and a nice voice easy to listen to. I read this book for the first time back in the 90's and was excited to listen to it recently as I had forgotten a lot of it, really enjoyed it and the memories it envoked. I'd recommend it highly.
