Flawless fantasy heist

Where does Six of Crows rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of my favourite books that I have listened to in a while. I bought after reading a few review on a whim, and found that it was engaging, fun and original.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It is hard to pick one as they are all so well developed and have such complex motivation. I loved the wraith and nina, but they were all great

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The story switches perspectives, although it is narrated in 3rd person, and each character has a different narrator, giving the performance texture. This also helps to make it easier to follow and remember who you're listening to! In other books, I have found that this technique can be gimmicky, but it adds to the story and enables the author to reveal and hide different aspects of the story well, building suspense and adding depth.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I don't know... the plot is too unique and interesting to be summarised in one line.

Any additional comments?

The narrative is great, the plot is original and the characters are full. The author has not had to resort to using old tropes and, although some of the romance involved is a bit unoriginal, it added to rather than detracted from the story as a whole. I really enjoyed this book!

good book ruined by the multiple voices

I enjoyed the story (even if I prefer the Grisha trilogy) but the experience was completely rui ed by the change of voice for every chapter.
every voice had their own interpretation of a character and it forced on the listener more concentration to hear the name tag of who was talking.
I really hope this doesn't become an audible standard!

Annoying this is about kids

Unusually annoying that this is about 17 year olds. It’s a good story but every time they talked about their ages I irrationally wanted to throw my phone across the room.

The Heist Adventure of an Age

Wonderfully narrated, this book addresses so many extremely relevant topics of our world today, wrapped in a high-stakes adventure of a low-steampunk/fantasy setting clearly inspired by late 19th century Europe. The characters are so flawed and real, and I quickly grew to love them all and became thoroughly invested in their journeys!

Great book but some of the readers are hard to listen to

Love the book, takes a couple of chapters to get in to but it’s like the perfect mix between Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. I would deffo recommend it! But perhaps it’s just because I’m Brutish and not used to such strong American accents but one or two of the voices sound almost like Siri is trying to read the book. Some are great though. ( it’s read by multiple people). Id say give it a go cus the stories so great!

Wobbly start but I got there

I have to admit I started listening and I didn’t realise untill i was about half way through I hadn’t be paying any attention that the story and I didn’t care for the characters, so I started it from the beginning and I’m glad I did, because I then actually became immerse in the story, I believe why I struggled at the beginning was because I had just finished the light bringer series and I was still thinking about it because it was so good however once I’ve put it aside in my head and I really tried to knuckle down with this book I discovered that it was enjoyable.

Talented narrators and great characters

A master criminal, a sharpshooter, a witch, a convict, a boy who makes explosives and a girl who can climb anything, set out on an impossible heist.

An exciting story which brings to life a thrilling fantasy world complete with likeable and interesting characters. A story about a rag-tag group of misfits including, lovable rogues, each with their own distinct skills working together to accomplish a seemingly impossible feat. The banter and dynamics between the characters were also a treat and I was invested in every relationship, be it platonic or romantic.

The voice actors were also wonderful and made the experience even better. They really captured the personality of the characters. They each narrated several chapters in the viewpoint of their character but also did different voices for different characters during conversations which took place in their characters chapter. Each voice was so distinctive that I always knew which character was speaking, I wish every audiobook was so excellently performed!

I would definitely recommend this audiobook as it made me laugh and I love the characters and writing style!

Excellent. Loved it.

Gripping story, great narration. Worked really well as an audio book with the multiple character perspective. On to book 2 immediately…. ❤️
