About this listen

An unique and intense tale following Elim Garak as he attempts to stitch the ravaged society of Cardassia back together.

For nearly a decade Garak has longed for just one thing—to go home. Exiled on a space station, surrounded by aliens who loathe and distrust him, going back to Cardassia has been Garak's one dream. Now, finally, he is home. But home is a world whose landscape is filled with death and destruction. Desperation and dust are constant companions and luxury is a glass of clean water and a warm place to sleep.

Ironically, it is a letter from one of the aliens on that space station, Dr. Julian Bashir, that inspires Garak to look at the fabric of his life. Elim Garak has been a student, a gardener, a spy, an exile, a tailor, even a liberator. It is a life that was charted by the forces of Cardassian society with very little understanding of the person, and even less compassion.

But it is the tailor that understands who Elim Garak was, and what he could be. It is the tailor who sees the ruined fabric of Cardassia, and who knows how to bring this ravaged society back together. This is strange, because a tailor is the one thing Garak never wanted to be. But it is the tailor whom both Cardassia and Elim Garak need. It is the tailor who can put the pieces together, who can take a stitch in time.

I am so pleased this book has become an an audiobook and that the actor who played Garak did the narration.

This book offers some great insight into Garak always as intriguing character and his people. I liked learning more about the culture and mindset. The book gives Garak depth and the narration which is very well done and is able to express Garak's charm and conflicted nature.

I highly recommend this audio book to anyone who was a fan of Garak and DS9. The character had more to say and the book is the perfect opportunity. The author deserves thanks.

I hope more Star Trek books are produced in full using the actors who played them on tv as it makes a big difference.

A most enjoyable listen

The book feels like a natural continuation of Garak's story, it is anything but predictable.

An Excellent book that captures Garak's character.

I enjoyed this book when I first read it, but it’s even better with Andy reading it out. Great.

Great book brilliantly read

I'm genuinely impressed by how insightful and poignant this novel is - it's an excellent glimpse into Garak's life, but it's also an impressive commentary on the self destructive idiocy of Totalitarianism, the folly of War, and how waging War always malforms a culture, a people and an environment, regardless of whether it's the aggressor or the victim.

The novel also explores Post-War hardships and traumas, the dangers of love and free expression while under a Totalitarian regime, and what it means to finally be free to think and feel something, when one's whole life had been spent suppressing it.

There are just so many layers to the novel - I love it!
Andrew Robinson has genuinely impressed me with both his performance, and his writing.

Being a ST fan, specifically DS9, is necessary to fully enjoy this novel, I think. It's worth the effort of a bit of rewatching or wiki trawling tho - Stitch in Time is one of the finest books I've read/listened to this year! :)

Surprisingly touching and insightful novel!

Never worry about Garak’s story not being canon, a elaboration or fabrication is a truth in its own right!
I’ve wanted to read this book for such a long time but listening to it was so special, hearing Garak tell his story. Brilliant narration from AR and a look into Cardassian life.

Deep Space Nine deep dive

Garak is one of Star Trek greatest characters and this book simply amplifies that. It adds so much depth and history to his character which we would have never known from the stories. It's also read flawlessly by Andrew, a truly brilliant story.

Utterly fantastic read.

I had read the book several times but not in the last few years, during which a lot has happened in my life. When the audiobook was finally released, after all the wishing and petitioning and waiting and anticipation, I assumed I'd just listen to it for the performance. But whilst I did remember pretty much all of the plot, I found new insight here that resonates with the person I've grown into. So much more than a Star Trek novel.

I have been trying to buy this book for years but it’s costs was prohibitive. So couldn’t wait to listen to it and it doesn’t disappoint… well structured and a great 👍 follow up on Deep Space Nine finally. Thank you Andrew Robinson
