About this listen

Former FBI agent Kendra Donovan's attempts to return to the 21st century have failed, leaving her stuck at Aldridge Castle in 1815. And her problems have just begun: in London, the Duke of Aldridge's nephew Alec - Kendra's confidante and lover - has come under suspicion for murdering his former mistress, Lady Dover, who was found viciously stabbed with a stiletto, her face carved up in a bizarre and brutal way.

Lady Dover had plenty of secrets, and her past wasn't quite what she'd made it out to be. Nor is it entirely in the past - which becomes frighteningly clear when a crime lord emerges from London's seamy underbelly to threaten Alec. Joining forces with Bow Street Runner Sam Kelly, Kendra must navigate the treacherous 19th century while she picks through the strands of Lady Dover's life. As the noose tightens around Alec's neck, Kendra will do anything to save him, including following every twist and turn through London's glittering ballrooms, where deception is the norm-and any attempt to uncover the truth will get someone killed.

Light entertainment. Not intellectually challenging. Play at 1.1 speed to reduce the annoyance factor of the readers voice.

Its ok

I’m enjoying these books - it’s different from usual murder mystery books and easy listening.
But play at slightly fast speed 1.1 works well for me

Unusual series

I found these by accident and have bought 4
Beautifully written and researched, fascinating to listen to. Superb narration by Lucy Rayner, all faultless. I highly recommend the series

Brilliant

The second book was as exciting as the first. It kept my attention all the way through.
The only issue is the narrator’s speed of speech and that can be easily increased to whatever is better for the listener. I wouldn’t want anyone to be put off just by that.
Can’t wait for the next book.

Increase speed of speech.

Really enjoying this series two of my favourite things- detection and time travel what could be better!

Great series

Exciting plot. Wonderful characters. Excellent narration, especially if you set the tempo to 1,2.
One of the best book series I have read, ever!

I love these characters together with the twists and turns of the time. Well read, an entirely satisfying story.

Another very satisfying story

This was JUST as good as book one and keeps a gripping pace...again I find the narration to be best at 1.25 speed as stops it sounding slow and drawled out.

Thoroughly recommend this series :-)

Thoroughly enjoyable! Again played at 1.25 speed

I like crime and I like Regency fiction, so the concept of a modern FBI agent finding herself in Regency England appealed to me.

Really enjoyed the first two books and just downloaded the third. On the whole they are very enjoyable, even if Kendra gets away with doing and saying quite unacceptable things. Since everything is seen through the eyes of an American character, I can forgive the Americanisms. (although she's always saying "OK" and no one ever asks her what she means- no one in the UK used "OK" until the 1940s!)
Not totally sure why Kendra is so obsessed with returning to modern times, where she would only be thrown in jail for going rogue from the FBI and she has no friends or family she loves. She'd really rather be in an American jail than living free among people who care about her??

2 books in and I'm hooked!

A really good story with excellent, well performed narration. Kendra is just beginning to come to terms with being thrown 200 years into the past, when Alex's mistress is brutally murdered and he is suspected. Travelling to London drags her into the world of opposites, balls and slums, wealth and destitution and the class system. A well told, entertaining story with great characters. A real winner.

Entertaining and engrossing
