About this listen
Drew Michalik was working in a top-secret facility in Washington, DC, when the Advent began. As all electronics in the world simply ceased to work, blue screens filled with information appeared before him.
Drew was given access to a mana interface and a limited number of reality-altering crystals called Xatherite. Following the instructions on his vision-impairing screens, he "slotted" his Xatherite and changed his fate: He gained the ability to cast spells. Now alone in the dark, he must battle through the government bunker turned dungeon in a desperate bid for survival.
Escape is only the beginning, the first of his many problems in the changed world. Drew will be tasked to not only survive...but to guide the rest of humanity safely through the anarchy.

Kept me engaged.
Easy to listen to and kept me engaged from start to finish, characters weren't too deep but neither were they one dimensional. Good amount of action that didn't drag on like some books can end up doing and the leveling/magic system is simple enough to follow without being droll, all in all a fun enjoyable book.

Good stuff
Anyone confused by the levelling system in this litrpg: think materia and levelling materia from FF7 coupled with linking and levelling skill gems in path of exiles. Simples. If you haven’t played those games you need to ask yourself what you’ve been doing with your life.
Having played these games the levelling and linking system seemed pretty straightforward.
Good story, nice variant on the “world ends, gaming protocols start, bet you wish you were a nerd now” premise.
Narrator was good, only thing that bugged me was “manasight” sounded like it was pronounced “monocyte” over and over again!
Look forward to further books in this series hopefully retaining the narrator. Long live the glorious empire of Drew!

Another unique premise well-executed
I like it when I'm surprised by a book, and this one did. I didn't red or don't recall reading the premise. Instead of being being in a simulator/VR game, we're brought to a multiverse where earth is thrown into chaos. Monsters abound and regular people get magical abilities. The magic system is quite unusual and a bit complex, but it works well. I'm invested in the story and characters and look forward to the next book.

Brilliant piece of Storytelling
Although a bit strange of a LitRPG setup this is very well done and very engaging so much so that as i couldn't get the 2nd audio i went to book 2 instead , which is something i dont usually do as i prefer book then audio or stick to audio.
The overreaching system and tie in to legends gives this a new but familiar feel and the premise of multiple slices (universes) means we can come across familiar characters in different settings without being too confusing.
I also liked that this has some moral grey areas as well giving this something to stand out in a very crowded LitRPG crowd.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts on this for everyone.

Excellent!
Great story and very different to all the (large) number of LitRPG books I’ve listened to. Highly recommended.

Good story
A good story, but the narrators sharp and loud inhalations keeps messing up the story when i listen even though he is a good storyteller... I wish they had edited his inhalations out :-(

Well worth it.
Nice concept, cleverly written - just the right amount of crunch. Very much looking forward to the next. Bravo.

Good story and narration.
Better than your average LitRPG. I generally enjoyed listening to this but the tables were a chore.

To much Hardwork
Nothing bad to say about the performance and story, it just became hardwork to workout the mechanics of the world and if I dropped my focus for a second then I just got lost. Stopped just over halfway through and gave up.
