About this listen
Conveniently, he has an uncle with a house in Alexandria. For this innocent reason (he says) they sail to Egypt. As soon as they arrive in Alexandria, a suspicious death occurs at the famous Great Library. The authorities rapidly hand Falco the investigation; he is, after all, the well-known informer from Rome and the Emperor Vespasian's fixer. He was one of the last to see the victim alive and, should the investigation fail, it is he who'll get the blame...

It has everything
There is Drama, love, murder as usual, and Thalia with her snake. Entertaining and witty.

Intimations of Falco Series Ending
This had something of the feeling that the series was coming to a close. The mystery adventure seemed a bit fitful, but I enjoyed seeing small pieces being moved about. Albia and Aulus being more evident, Helena and motherhood, and Falco questioning his age. The setting was diverting, but listeners might want to Google a map of ancient Alexandria for orientation purposes. Now having listened and read 19 of the series, 'Alexandria' has reminded me how very rewarding the journey has been. There is something special in being able to visit a world repeatedly and find pleasure and ease in it. Davis is an accomplished plotter, excellent writer, wise - and so witty and funny too. I still prize her wonderful ability to judge chapters so well; length, content and linking. The performance was also excellent and the voice characterisation across the rich gallery of characters so accomplished. Where next? Novel 20, 'Nemesis', what else, buy a slight pause so that picking up with Falco, family and friends will be like a coming home. (A nice touch will be that the hardback of 'Nemesis' that I will use alongside the audio-book is actually signed by Lyndsey Davis. One of those surprises when you pick up a second-hand book.)

Keeping up the standard
The usual complexity, told with humour, well-drawn characters and lots of fascinating detail, narrated with all the vivacity and excellent character voices we are used to from Christian Rodska. Now, where's the next one . . .

Probably my favourite Falco
Christian Rodska is brilliant as Falco. Some earlier books are narrated by boring readers who just don’t seem right. Falco’s extended family (ever augmented by waifs & strays) are familiar by now & this novel is enlivened by Tallia, as outrageous as ever, with her pet snake Jason. Uncle Fulvius and his companion Cassius are the hosts for this holiday so what can go wrong??

One of the best Falco's
Best narrator, great storyline, engaging 'one off' characters and the thrill of discovering the library of Alexandria.

East to listen to, funny and well read
I am a little sad as after reading this I only have one Falco book in the series to read. Falco is a believable character in a Rome that seems to be alive not in the past. I recommend the Falco series of books, good entertainment and an escape to the Rome of Vespasian
