This is really good for the listen that cover’s the whole adventure from start to finish. It gives a day to day account of events that occur while trying to summit the tallest mountain.

An excellent and detailed book giving an accurate and detailed account of climbing a mountain. in this case Everest, but much of what is described applies on lesser peaks too.

From the start to the finish you feel you are there with Fergus as he attempts his epic journey. Much better than some of the books written by recognised climbers, Well worth a read / listen. Much of the reason it works is that he is genuinely honest and likeable

This is an adventure book with a difference because it follows a previously novice climber (even that may be too strong a term) in his attempt to summit Everest. It is very well written and the flow and depth has an honesty and authenticity that is often missing from professional Adventurer books. Having read a huge amount of Everest stories, this really is different and captivating. It forgoes any machoism and lays bare the highs, lows and calamities of an amateur trying to summit Everest! Well worth your time.

This is my 4th listen. Listening to the journey you can imagine being on the Mountain yourself. I wonderful first person perspective. Honest and raw.

My go to account of the Everest Climb

The good thing about this book is the day to day detail that more seasoned mountaineers assume that we armchair climbers already know. It really is meticulous in describing, almost hour by hour, what it really feels like to take part in an Everest expedition. The listener really lives the story with the author.

But the narration........! It seems an native Irishman has been chosen, which is excellent as it matches the author's background. But it is a monotone drone from start to finish, even in recounting conversation. I found it excellent to fall asleep to!

Also you can imagine that the word "Crevasse" comes up very frequently in this sort of book. The narrator insists in calling it a "crevice", like a slot down the back of your sofa. This is a serious goof and should have been picked up by the editor

I've read many books on mountaineering, some good, some less so, and I've never been really disappointed by any of them. But this is unique; a blow by blow account of the daily grind involved in climbing Everest. I found it fascinating, so much so I was almost emotional at the end. This book is a quite a journey, don't miss it.

Started of more like a descent into boredom (did we really need to know about every toilet break?) and just involved going up and down the mountain with not much of interest happening however the last two hours were more exciting and made up for it.
