About this listen

Mark Webber was at the centre of one of the most captivating chapters in the history of Formula One. In 2010, while racing for Red Bull, he and his teammate, Sebastian Vettel, went head to head for the world championship. There could be only one winner.

Since retiring from Formula One, Mark has concentrated on endurance racing, including the legendary Le Mans 24-hour race. He hit the front pages of newspapers around the world in December 2014 when he slammed into the barricades in the final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in South America and was lucky to escape with his life.

But the controversy of his relationship on and off the track with Vettel, who went on to win multiple world titles, has never been far beneath the surface. Here, for the first time, Webber tells the inside story of one of Formula One's most intriguing battles - it is a story that goes to the heart of why the sport is loved by millions of fans around the world.

In his trademark straight-talking, no-nonsense style, Mark reveals his amazing life on and off the Formula One racetrack, from his first taste of karting to his F1 debut in 2002, from scoring Minardi's first points in three years at the Australian Grand Prix through to his first win with Red Bull at the 2009 German Grand Prix and the year he should have been crowned world champion. Mark Webber's journey to the top of Formula One was every bit as determined and committed as his racing. Aussie Grit is his searingly honest story.

Includes a foreword by Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart.

Fantastic, you get a true inside understanding of what Mark, other F1 drivers and top athletes go through.

Very humble and top block.

What did you like most about Aussie Grit?

If you like F1, this is a great read about the steps it takes to reach the pinnacle of motorsport, especially for an Australian, where geography, support, and recognition are obstacles he had to face over his European counterparts.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I nearly teared up when he was going through his first F1 win, as you had heard the journey he had to battle to get there.

Any additional comments?

The performance was a bit up and down, some parts he sounds like he's reading off a cue card, or they replaced him with a robot.

Great story from a great driver

This is an excellent audiobook and very well written. What MW went through in order to get himself through his racing career is absolutely admirable. I loved hearing about what MW and his family had to sacrifice in order to get to F1, but once he got there, the story didn’t end. It was great hearing what goes on in the F1 world, and most of all, what happened between him and Sebastian Vettel.

The only slight negative I have, is that the book wasn’t narrated by MW himself. The narrator was very good but hearing the story from MW would’ve been even better.

I highly recommend this audiobook.

Great insight into an F1 driver.

Entertaining and educating, Mark put his brilliant racing career into 10 hours of good listening

Brilliant story of a great man and F1 driver.

I'm not sure why the Narrator doesn't know how to pronounce FW27 as FW twenty seven not two seven or 111degrees as one hundred and eleven degrees not one one one degrees? Did he not learn numbers? Also mispronouncing well known F1 places like Jerez was excruciating.
Ignoring these Marks story is an intriguing one. Having worked with Mark during his career I find myself hearing things I don't necessarily agree with but this is his book told from his point of view. It's always good to hear how he felt even if it is a bit warped.

Good but pity the Narrator clearly isn't an F1 fan

Great book narrated by a fellow aussie. It goes back to Mark's early days wanting to be an F1 driver right up to his Porsche days with all the details in between including his Red Bull career. Very highly recommended for F1 fans and general autobiography readers alike.
