About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Shortlisted for the Audible Sounds of Crime Award 2020.
The highly anticipated return of Jackson Brodie, ex-military, ex-Cambridge Constabulary, now private investigator. This audiobook is narrated by Jason Issacs, who starred as Jackson Brodie in the television series ‘Case Histories’.
Jackson Brodie has relocated to a quiet seaside village in North Yorkshire, in the occasional company of his recalcitrant teenage son Nathan and ageing Labrador Dido, both at the discretion of his former partner Julia. It's a picturesque setting, but there's something darker lurking behind the scenes.
Jackson's current job, gathering proof of an unfaithful husband for his suspicious wife, seems straightforward, but a chance encounter with a desperate man on a crumbling cliff leads him into a sinister network-and back into the path of someone from his past. Old secrets and new lies intersect in this breathtaking new novel, both sharply funny and achingly sad, by one of the most dazzling and surprising writers at work today.
'Jason Issacs - best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films - [is] a popular and adept narrator, who has done all five Brodie novels with great flair. This book has all Atkinson's genius hallmarks: funny, sad, heartwarming and gripping.' Daily Mail
‘Narrator Jason Isaacs (who starred in the "Case Histories" TV series) is the perfect match for this multifaceted story. His confident and polished delivery allows both the wit in the writing and the tension of the plot to come together.’ AudioFile Magazine

Absolutely loved it
Really enjoyed the latest installment on Jackson Brodie from Kate Atkinson.
The older books weren't very fresh, but many of the references and characters brought them flooding back.

Jackson Brodie's Back! And oh, Jason Isaacs
What a relief to have a new Jackson Brodie book after Atkinson's weird forays into serious fiction (I know they did well but I thought they were really boring and affected) and how wonderful to hear Jason Isaacs being the world's greatest reader and actor. I loved everything about this - warm, and funny and clever and fabulous.

Neat Crime Jigsaw
I enjoyed this Jackson Brodie Audible presentation having watched the 'Case Histories' series on TV. The plot is topical and credible with an excellent cast of characters that could easily be developed. Apart from Harry, the men in the novel are mostly unpleasantly two dimensional but the women are much more engaging. I particularly liked the 'Kray twins' and Crystal Holroyd. If you like Peter James and his Roy Grace series I'm sure you'll enjoy this book.

What a great book
Excellent story superbly read by Jason Isaacs (Jackson Brodie himself). It is hard not to like Jackson and it is hard not to admire Kate Atkinson who has the ability to make you laugh one minute and rage the next.
A powerful story and sadly, one which is totally believable!

Reggie Chase returns
Reggie is one of my favourite literary characters of all time. It’s been a joy to follow her adventures and to watch her character develop. Feisty, intelligent, funny and utterly inspiring.
Like all of the Jackson Brodie novels, this is an irresistible blend of social commentary, reflections on the horrors of humanity, and faith in the human spirit to find comedy and compassion in the darkest moments. Intelligent writing.

Welcome back Jackson
Another episode in Jackson Brodie’s life as a PI. But that’s only half the story (or even less). He gets caught up in several happenings including murder, slave trafficking and old abuse cases. Familiar characters are there (a bit older) Julia, Nathan, their son (now 13)
his daughter Marlee and Reggie Chase now a detective constable. New characters also appear. Kate Atkinson’s writing is superb with moving moments as well as hilarious ones. The best audio book for me this year. (Superb narration by Jason Isaacs again)
