About this listen
Betrayed. Murdered. Reborn. One last chance, to make it right. Theo's adventure ended with his mentor's hands around his neck. The betrayal cost him his friends, allies and everything he had built... but not his life. Though broken and powerless, Theo has one last chance to enter the Nine Worlds, wielding the knowledge and expertise of his first life. This time, he needs more than just power, he needs to unravel the deception that killed him once... and is coming for him again.
Theo's path back to power leads him through one of the most dangerous areas he encountered in his first life: the Chasm of Lamentations. But this time, the Chasm is the site of a vicious war between factions hungry for the resources within. Theo has no choice but to gather his allies and head into the chaos, where darker secrets are waiting...

Another great book in a hidden gem of a series
tldr: great read, I immediately want the next book.
Everything about this series' premise set off red flags for me that this was going to be a vapid power fantasy. I couldn't be more glad that i stuck with it .
The greatest trick this series plays is to take all of those stock isekai tropes that have worn their way into the ground and make them intricate, meticloius, and often terrifying lore. The Protagonist's journey from cookie-cutter hero, to bitter and ruthless, all the way back to something approaching decent only works because of the excellent characters and character writing that communicates a depth of personally and culture that makes each of the different worlds in these books feel unique and well-lived in.
As always, Travis brings his A-game as a narrator, but that shouldn't come as any suprise to someone who's heard him before.
