Critic reviews

"The Mortal Instruments series features a rare marriage of extremely intricate, fast-paced plotting with ample digressions into the emotional lives of characters we’ve come to care about deeply.... With a movie in the works, this is an excellent time for new readers to jump on board one of the most enjoyable series in YA. Smart, fun, and epic, these books are addictive for all the right reasons." ( Locus)
"The new queen of fantasy." ( The Wall Street Journal)

Straight onto book 6

Another change in narrators did not detract from the story, at least not in my opinion. Great entry in the series, well read by both Grant and Eloise. Starting book 6 now.

great story but 2 narrators are a bit annoying

I love the books and love the story so really excited to have this as an audiobook. what I don't understand is that there are 2 different narrators and it does annoy a bit. apart from that this is a great audiobook.

Enjoyable

Was a bit concerned as I had read criticism over the narration. But I adjusted the speed made it slightly faster and found then the narrative was fine. I am probably a bit old for these books but must admit to enjoying them

Inconsistent narration

The female narrator is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the woman who read the last book. Her voice acting is entertaining and suits the characters.

The male voice is also good but you can occasion hear him swallowing and clearing his throat (yuck and yuck).

The main thing that is irritating me is that they’re pronouncing frequently used words differently to the previous narrators. Examples: Stele, ichor, and most annoyingly they’re pronouncing Maryse as ‘Maurice’ as opposed to ‘Mayriss’ from previous books. Took me a while to twig who they were talking about!

Loved it!!!

This one doesn't need a review as anyone who read the first book in the series will just want to keep reading and this one is no different!
Really like the narrators too, they read the story well together and it was clear which each character was as they read.

love Cassandra Clare but really struggled with Eloise Oxer. Found her so grating that I nearly stopped listening ☹️

The narrators are ruining this series!

I absolutely love these stories but what on Earth is going on with the narrators?! The last two book castings have been so shocking at selecting a female narrator! The last one sounded so burning and this one makes everything sound like a seedy 80s erotica reading!

I don’t have time it sit and read books as much as I would like so audio books are my escape! when there’s a book series, it makes it so much easier to have one narrator consistently throughout the series. I spent the first half of this book getting used to the female narrator but I found myself zoning out and missing the story because it didn’t feel right.

I hope the next one is better!
