About this listen

The stakes have never been higher . . . Damned by Genevieve Cogman is the final book in the Scarlet Revolution series, a spellbinding adventure of magic, vampires and mayhem.

1794. Eleanor, once a lowly English maid, is now a member of the League of the Scarlet Pimpernel and a promising conjuror. With a vampire plot thwarted in Paris, the League's next daring rescue is of the Pimpernel's beloved wife, Lady Marguerite, imprisoned in her London townhouse on unjust charges of treason and espionage.

But Lady Marguerite’s captivity is only the first threat from the League's vampiric enemy. With the King known to be ill, possibly mad, England is not as it should be. Vampires conspire to take control over the whole country whilst challenging Eleanor and the League at every turn.

But then using her growing magical powers, Eleanor uncovers a devastating, centuries-old secret that is so steeped in blood, it will change not only England, but the entire vampire world forever . . .

Damned is the unmissable third book in the Scarlet Revolution trilogy from Genevieve Cogman, author of The Invisible Library series. Discover where Eleanor's journey first began in Scarlet, a Sunday Times bestseller.

‘A thoughtful exploration of class and revolution . . . This is a smart, swashbuckling joy. I loved it’ – H.G. Parry, author of The Magician’s Daughter on Scarlet

Love this series and I was looking forward to this one for ages. Georgia Maguire did a fantastic job narrating the first two, so I was disappointed to see that the narrator had changed for the third book, but I had high hopes. Sadly, Emma Fenney is nowhere near as good. I think her style would work well for children’s books, but I’m finding it really distracting from the story here. At the very beginning, she describes Lady Marguerite’s French accent, but she somehow makes character sound more like Margaret Thatcher and hasn’t even attempted to give her a French accent! She manages to make the other characters sound equally annoying and unlikeable too.
I’m sure the plot and the characters will be fantastic but I’m really struggling to continue past chapter two at the moment. Might just give up and read it instead.

Fab author, shame about the narration

If you're going to change the narrator at least make sure they can do the accents needed! Some of the characters in the book are french which the woman who narrated the first 2 books did wonderfully. She's made Lady Marguerite sound a lot older and very posh English when she's meant to be an ex french actress! She's made flourette sound a lot older when she's meant to be in her 20's and is also french! I just don't understand it.

why change the narrator?
